Sinopsis

Run by Karen Morton, the eccentric, sex-fantasy-prone mother in a hilarious yet deeply troubled dysfunctional family in North Vancouver, the Footstop Cafe is a place to put your feet up near the beautiful but tragedy-plagued Lynn Canyon and its vertigo-inspiring footbridge. The canyon and the cafe serve as the nexus around which Karen's universe revolves. Things happen here. Amazing things.
Karen's husband is a podiatrist with a foot fetish, her teenage daughter thinks she's a lesbian but is afraid to confront the reality, and her younger son is given to having bowel movements in closets and building bombs. Throw in Karen's unconventional Anglican minister father and his Tibetan wife, a hairy belly dancer named Moey, a randy virgin high school diver with Olympic ambitions, and a host of other quirky, unforgettable characters and you have a debut novel that is at turns absurdist, touching, manic, and supremely irreverent.

P.G. Wodehouse, the master of British humor, produced dozens of books and hundreds of short stories in his long and prolific career. But none of his creations has quite captured the world's imagination as much as his bumbling, empty-headed, man-about-town Bertie Wooster and Bertie's faithful, knight-in-shining tuxedo Jeeves. Collected here are three of Wodehouse's most beloved "Jeeves and Wooster" tales - including ten short stories from the anthology "Carry On, Jeeves," as well as the complete novels "The Inimitable Jeeves" and "Right Ho, Jeeves" - each a master class in comedic writing. ("Carry On, Jeeves" also features the only Wooster and Jeeves story narrated by Jeeves himself!) Along with Jeeves and Bertie, we are introduced to an entire cast of beloved Wodehouse characters: Madeline Bassett, Bingo Little, James "Corky" Corcoran, Honoria Glossop, Rockmetteller Todd and the terrifying and bombastic Aunt Agatha. These three books are presented here in their original and unabridged form.

Bestselling author and internationally renowned animal psychologist and dog trainer Patricia McConnell “gives a voice to those who can’t speak in words and provides hope for fearful animals everywhere” (Temple Grandin) in this powerful and uplifting memoir about healing.World-renowned as a source of science and soul, Patricia McConnell combines brilliant insights into canine behavior with heartwarming stories of her own dogs and their life on the farm. Now, she reveals that it wasn’t just the dogs who had serious problems. For decades Dr. McConnell secretly grappled with her own guilt and fear, which were rooted in the harrowing traumas of her youth. Patricia is forced to face her past by her love for a young Border Collie named Will, whose frequent, unpredictable outbreaks of fear and fury shake Patricia to her core. In order to save Will from this dangerous behavior, she must find her own will to heal, and along the way learn that will power by itself is not enough. Interweaving enlightening stories of her clients’ dogs with tales of her deepening bond with Will, this is a “compassionate account of the reclamation of the author's life from abuse and shame. An uplifting story of hope about how both dogs and humans need "a sense that they are not helpless victims" (Kirkus Reviews).

The French interior evokes a way of life to aspire to, with its good food, unhurried pace and, above all, its past for which many people feel nostalgia. Developed over hundreds of years, the French look reflects all tastes, from the cultivated grandeur of the chateau to the simplicity of rural living, and can be adapted to every home. Creating the French Look is divided into four styles: 'Chateau', 'Country', 'Provençal' and 'Parisian', and each "look" is applied to living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms plus outdoor living spaces. As well as describing each overall style, focusing on colours and fabrics, Annie Sloan emphasizes the details and accents required by each one, and, aided by 25 clearly explained step-by-step projects, shows how to achieve it. Among other things, she explains how to paint and distress furniture, and describes how to cover an armoire door with embroidered voile. Whatever interior you desire, this book will guide your choices from the grand statement of the painted armoire to the finishing touch of a little posy of lavender.

    B Is for Bad Poetry

“The poems are so deliciously bad that they’re fun . . . it might just be that there’s a little bit of serious poetry play giggling behind the scenes.” —Los Angeles Times

Forget Shakespeare. Don’t count on Donne. Shelley and Keats: banished! And there’s absolutely no poet laureate from the golden or any other age. So fawning PhDs in love with little-understood verses by long-dead writers should go elsewhere. This is poetry for the rest of us—bad poetry!

Pamela Russell’s unexalted (but thoroughly hysterical) poems mock, chide, accuse, tease, joke, undermine, point, and laugh at the world around us—and at anything that takes itself too seriously. Her non-canonical oeuvre includes: Tea for Two (A Tragedy); Nietzsche and the Ice-Cream Truck; Capitalism Can Fall Not Like I Fell for You; Inappropriately Touched by an Angel; Love Is Like a Toilet Bowl; and many more.
