Sinopse

Spending Time with an Angel is a diary in which Paul Lazor documents all stages of his wife, Julie, during her battle against leukaemia. We can clearly see how love, sorrow, and resiliency play an integral role in their lives throughout the book. It portrays a life filled with routine activities and common aspirations, as well as the warmth and humour in the family and the couple’s exchanges that highlight their close friendship from the outset. As symptoms emerged, his wife’s gradual decline was accompanied by struggles with worry and confusion. As the course of therapy goes on, the diary entries get increasingly melancholy, and along with Julie’s hardships, the emotional agony is ever-present.This story depicts the emotional ups and downs of chronic disease through contrasting moments of hope and despair.Readers will learn more about the intricacies of love during trying times by reading this diary. The book reflects a difficult journey, portraying a heartbreaking situation through the eyes of a man remembering his wife.Paul Lazor, born Pawlo Lazor in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, in 1955, is the son of refugees who came from Eastern Europe after the end of the Second World War. I transferred to a grammar school at the age of 16 and eventually to the University of Birmingham, where I studied Science. I graduated in 1976 and embarked upon a career in the Sale of scientific instruments to Industry. I travelled to Eastern Europe and Russia, encountering the Secret Police and Donald Maclean, the infamous spy. After my first marriage came to a tragic end, I met Julie in 1990, who became my wife and Angel in the story. In 2001, Julie was diagnosed with leukaemia, and she passed away in 2005. In 2014, after a period of calm and tranquillity in my life, I decided to start a new life in Spain. After retiring in 2022 and learning to speak Spanish to a reasonable standard, I am now teaching Spanish as an enjoyable hobby to expats from England.

""An instant classic. . . a truly beautiful piece of American storytelling."" —William Kittredge, author of Owning It All
A widowed homesteader is determined to make a life in the unforgiving mountains of late 19th century Oregon in this “powerful novel of struggle and loss.” (Dallas Morning News)
Acclaimed author Molly Gloss drew on pioneer diaries and old family stories to write this modern Western classic of a solitary woman’s frontier life. In the 1890s, Lydia Bennett Sanderson, a hardship-honed widow, leaves her old life behind and journey’s to Jump-Off Creek to make her way as a homesteader in the backcountry of Oregon. Her neighbors are few and far between: Tim Whiteaker and Blue Odell are trying to make a go of it on their small hardscrabble ranch, while Evelyn Walker – a young, lonely wife – is rearing her children in daunting isolation. And a trio of rootless cowboys are squatting in the mountains, their only income the bounty from poisoned wolves. While Lydia toils into the summer, building fences, digging ditches, and repairing her homestead cabin, Tim and Blue engage in a deadly spoilers game with the wolvers. As the months pass, there is good and ill fortune, the exchange of fair-and-square favors, and Lydia finds both courage and community in her determination to survive.
An unforgettable tale in which “every gritty line of the story rings true” (Seattle Times), Gloss delivers an authentic and moving portrait of the American West.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens continues the bold tales of the Cavanaugh siblings as the sole Cavanaugh sister discovers that love truly does conquer all.
A lady with a passion for music and the maestro she challenges in pursuit of a worthy cause find themselves battling villains both past and present as they fight to secure life’s greatest rewards—love, marriage, and family.
Stacie—Lady Eustacia Cavanaugh—is adamant marriage is not for her. Wealthy and well-born, she needs for nothing, and with marriage off the table, to give her life purpose, she embarks on a plan to further the careers of emerging local musicians by introducing them to the ton via a series of musical evenings. Yet despite her noble status, Stacie requires a musical lure to tempt the haut ton to her events, and only one musician commands sufficient cachet—the reclusive and notoriously reluctant Marquess of Albury.
Frederick, Marquess of Albury, has fashioned a life for himself as a musical scholar, one he pursues largely out of sight of the ton. He might be renowned as a virtuoso on the pianoforte, yet he sees no reason to endure the smothering overattentiveness of society. Then his mother inveigles him into meeting Stacie, and the challenge she lays before him is … tempting. Enough for him not to immediately refuse her.
A dance of subtle persuasion ensues, and step by step, Frederick finds himself convinced that Stacie’s plan has real merit and that it behooves him to support her. At least for one event.
Stacie’s first musical evening, featuring Frederick as the principal performer, is a massive success—until Fate takes a hand and lands them in a situation that forces them both to reassess.
Does Frederick want more than the sterile, academic life he’d thought was for him?
Can Stacie overcome her deepest fears and own to and reach for her girlhood dreams?
Impulsive, arrogant, and used to getting his own way, Frederick finds his answer easily enough, but his new direction puts him on a collision course with Stacie’s fears. Luckily, he thrives on challenges—which is just as well, because in addition to convincing Stacie that love can, indeed, conquer all, he and she must unravel the mystery of who is behind a spate of murderous attacks before the villain succeeds in eliminating all hope of a happy ending.
