Summary

In a small fishing village in a faraway place, little boys cannot wait to turn seven so they can take a special trip with their fathers, where they will learn how to become fishermen. One of those fathers is looking forward to teaching his son, Alex, the value of working together for the common good of the village.

As Alex and his father journey from their village to the ocean, they walk hand in hand and talk about trusting God, the future of Alex’s life, and what kinds of things he can expect. Along the way, Father protects Alex from danger and teaches him to rely on God’s plan. But when Alex encounters another boy on the journey who is having a different experience from his father, he soon realizes just how blessed he is.

In this inspirational children’s tale, a boy’s dream is fulfilled when he takes a much-anticipated trip and discovers the joy of unconditional love from both his earthly and heavenly fathers.

“Boys and girls alike will appreciate the mix of classic and contemporary elements in this creepy, suspenseful middle-grade mystery” (The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books). Roddy Hall overhears his mother saying “Princess” is coming to visit. He’s excited—he’s always wanted a dog. But then he finds out that—ick—Princess is a girl and—yuck—she’ll be staying for a whole week. One night, Princess, Roddy, and his best friend, Jacob, notice a mysterious car pull up to an abandoned house. Could it be a burglar? Or worse yet, a ghost? Princess is determined to find out, and against his better judgment, Roddy goes along with her. They sneak out of the house to investigate—but will they be ready for what they might find?  Princess for a Week is a Society for School Librarians International Honor Book.
