Danube and by the plague that is decimating the imperial population. To both situations there seems to be no
there is no solution, and yet he finds solace in an unshakable certainty. He has an heir to his throne.
This is his last surviving son, Commodus, whom he proclaimed Caesar three years earlier.
Choosing to start a proper dynasty, Marcus hopes one day to reign together with his son,
making him the cane of his own old age as well as a colleague with whom to work in harmony.
But that will not be the case. And not only because illness will take him away before such can happen.
Commodus, still a child, has already understood power and his position. And he has made a promise to himself.

Conflicts have accompanied mankind since time immemorial, and for almost as long people have been trying to limit and deal with them – whether as those affected by them or as professionals with more or less success. For once a system of conflict has developed, once negative expectation structures and with them negative self-evident truths and inherent laws have developed, it becomes increasingly difficult for those involved to escape them: The complexity of our social world, in which it is not easy for communication to find its way, remains unseen. A violated sense of justice, misunderstandings and unfortunate attempts to correct them alternate. One begins to attribute the causes of the conflict to the "person" ("It's you! It's your fault!") and to attribute negative motives to the conflict partner ("You're only doing this because ...!"), who in turn does the same – just like a carousel that slowly gets going. A number of well-studied but little-known psychological processes occur within us when we are in conflict. Outrage at the other person grows, usually unfortunately on both sides. Slowly, the "carousel of outrage and indignation" begins to spin - faster and faster, until...
The book places the various psychological mechanisms in the context of a systemic understanding of conflict and explains ways to slow down the carousel.

Carmen's Legacy tells the story of a family's journey of tragedy and hope. At Age forty-two, John Maher was involved in a fatal car crash in which he was severely injured and, the eighteen-year-old driver of the other vehicle was killed. Thankfully, John was not at fault. His injuries were so severe that doctors informed him he would never work again. Married with four daughters in either secondary school or university, this was a tremendous blow to this young family. However, there was more tragedy to come for the Maher family. Just 30-months after John's horrific car crash, the youngest of their four beautiful daughters, 18-year-old Carmen, was killed in a car crash when she fell asleep at the wheel of her car and hit a tree.In an even crueller twist, her eldest sister Michelle was the third car on the crash scene when on her way to work.Carmen's Legacy has many lessons, and possibly the most powerful is how the love and support of family can overcome even the most devastating and tragic event. Two years after Carmen's death when four 18-year-old students were killed in a car crash in Bendigo, John decided to educate young drivers about the dangers on our roads. He developed Carmen's Road Safety presentation and presented it at secondary schools. Telling Carmen's story to years 10, 11, and 12 students hoping they would never do to their family what Carmen has done to his.Carmen's Legacy will take you on a journey of triumph over tragedy. It will also empower you to be a safer road user and help you understand who you are.The Maher family didn't know that on November 18, 1995, they would lose their beautiful Carmen forever and they would never be able to cuddle her again. We would love to give Carmen just one more cuddle.

Thick with owls and badgers, oak trees and wood piles, scarecrows and ghosts, and Tom Cox's loud and excitable dad, this book is full of the folklore of several counties the ancient kind and the everyday variety as well as wild places, mystical spots and curious objects. Emerging from this focus on the detail are themes that are broader and bigger and more important than ever.
Tom's writing treads a new path, one that has a lot in common with a rambling country walk; it's bewitched by fresh air and big skies, intrepid in minor ways, haunted by weather and old stories and the spooky edges of the outdoors, restless and prone to a few detours, but it always reaches its destination in the end.

Father Patrick Desbois documents the daunting task of identifying and examining all the sites where Jews were exterminated by Nazi mobile units in the Ukraine in WWII. Using innovative methodology, interviews, and ballistic evidence, he has determined the location of many mass gravesites with the goal of providing proper burials for the victims of the forgotten Ukrainian Holocaust.

Compiling new archival material and many eye-witness accounts, Desbois has put together the first definitive account of one of World War II's bloodiest chapters. Published with the support of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
