Sinopsis

Congratulations—you might’ve just ruined a great one. And this book is here to make sure you keep doing it… unless you want to stop.

In How to Ruin a Great Conversation, Patrick King hilariously dismantles every awkward, cringey, well-intentioned-but-totally-misguided way people sabotage social interactions. From asking weirdly invasive questions, to oversharing your entire life story, to playing defense like your ego's in a UFC match—you’ll learn exactly what not to do if you want connection, not confusion.

This book is for you if:

You panic and word-vomit your autobiography to a stranger.

You turn curious questions into interrogations.

You get stuck recycling the same two conversation topics.

You’re more focused on “sounding smart” than being present.

With chapters like “Only Be Interested in Yourself,” “Recycle the Same Conversation,” and “Play Defense Instead of Being Open,” King doesn’t just hand you a mirror—he hands you the script to burn and rewrite.

You’ll learn:

Why silence isn’t awkward—you just made it that way.

The formula for asking better questions that actually get answers.

How to stop protecting yourself and start connecting instead.

What to say when someone else overshares and makes it weird.

If you’ve ever walked away from a chat and thought, “Yikes,” this book is your antidote.

"The Condition of the Working-Class in England in 1844" is a socio-economic and political work by Friedrich Engels, a German philosopher and collaborator of Karl Marx. The book provides a critical analysis of the living and working conditions of the working class in England during the Industrial Revolution. Engels conducted extensive research and firsthand observations, drawing attention to the deplorable conditions faced by the working class in urban industrial centers. He explores issues such as long working hours, child labor, unsanitary living conditions, lack of workers' rights, and the exploitation of labor by the emerging industrial capitalist class. The book serves as a scathing critique of the social and economic inequalities of the time, highlighting the stark contrast between the living conditions of the working class and the affluent bourgeoisie.

Neutrality has, supposedly, long been a pillar of the Irish national identity – a policy that the country has proudly presented on the world stage. But, examining the concept reveals it to be a vague and elastic notion – one that, throughout history, various governments have been happy to stretch or, in some cases, abandon entirely.
Today, warfare has expanded to include cyberattacks, environmental concerns, election interference and disinformation. If our traditional idea of warfare is changing, should our idea of neutrality change too?
In this timely and thought-provoking examination of a core tenet of Irish society, Conor Gallagher explores the practical and ethical implications of choosing a side, asking: in the face of aggression, is it right to sit back and do nothing?

hips engaged in trade in Asia were at risk from pirates, and shipwrecked sailors were at the mercy of locals. Additionally, American whaling ships came to dominate the whaling trade in the Pacific and were also vulnerable to piracy and to incidents when they docked at Pacific ports to refresh supplies. American warships investigated incidents of piracy, including occasional punitive expeditions to punish pirates or their maltreatment of shipwrecked sailors.
Given the distances involved, the captains of warships had a great deal of discretion to commit their ships to action as they saw fit. Before they left port, they were usually given deliberately broad instructions by the Secretary of the Navy or by the President. U.S. ships got to Asia by way of Cape Horn at the tip of South America, or by the Cape of Good Hope around southern Africa, as there was no Suez Canal to shorten the very long voyage until 1869, and there was no easy communication between Washington and California until the transcontinental telegraph in 1861. California became a state in 1850, and the Navy was quick to establish a naval base there, setting up the Mare Island Navy Yard base near San Francisco in 1854. The first warship constructed there was in 1859.
An American warship was involved in a punitive expedition in the Pacific as early as 1813-14 at Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas. American naval landing forces fought battles at Quallah Batoo in 1831 and at Muckee in 1839, both in Sumatra. The Navy was involved in a battle in the Gilbert Islands in 1841. The Navy sometimes cooperated with the Royal Navy in actions against pirates off the Chinese coast and was involved in fighting in China in the 1850s and 1860s. There were incidents when American warships were involved not only in China, but also Vietnam and Japan. Americans participated in the violence in Japan as the Shogunate fell and the Meiji restoration began.

In the dust of the Gilded Age Bone Wars, two vastly different men emerge with a mission to fill the empty halls of New York's struggling American Museum of Natural History: Henry Fairfield Osborn, a socialite whose reputation rests on the museum's success, and intrepid Kansas-born fossil hunter Barnum Brown.

When Brown unearths the first Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils in the Montana wilderness, forever changing the world of paleontology, Osborn sees a path to save his museum from irrelevancy. With four-foot-long jaws capable of crushing the bones of its prey and hips that powered the animal to run at speeds of twenty-five miles per hour, the T. Rex suggests a prehistoric ecosystem more complex than anyone imagined. As the public turns out in droves to cower before this bone-chilling giant of the past and wonder at the mysteries of its disappearance, Brown and Osborn together turn dinosaurs from a biological oddity into a beloved part of culture.

The Monster's Bones journeys from prehistory to present day, from remote Patagonia to the badlands of the American West to the penthouses of Manhattan. With a wide-ranging cast of robber barons, eugenicists, and opportunistic cowboys, New York Times bestselling author David K. Randall reveals how a monster of a bygone era ignited a new understanding of our planet and our place within it.
