Sinopsis

Their hidden past brings questions about their future . . . together.

Unsure of her future within the Amish community, Beth Peachy arrives in Lancaster County for the summer to care for her ailing grandmother. Yet with dementia threatening to steal away Mammi's memories, Beth's visit quickly evolves into an urgent search for answers to questions that her relatives seem determined to avoid. How can Beth possibly make a lifelong vow to the Amish church when her own family is concealing so much of the past from her?

Beth's childhood friend Danny Lapp faces his own dilemma as his ex-Amish older brother turns his back on their family upbringing, dishonoring his Plain heritage. Struggling to find some sort of connection with his brother despite their deep difference of opinion, Danny is determined to find a solution before church leadership becomes involved. As Beth and Danny reconnect and seek to help each other in their search for answers, they find themselves stirring up not only surprising revelations about the past, but questions about a possible future--together.

"A tender journey that explores friendship, second chances, and finding unexpected love."--AMY CLIPSTON, bestselling author of The Heart's Shelter

Book clubs and fans of Beverly Lewis, Suzanne Woods Fisher, and Wanda E. Brunstetter will love this can't-put-down mix of romance, family secrets, and touching faith in an Old Order Amish community.

Where do people search for treasure? Deep underwater, in old, dusty mines, in the mountains, even under an old tree on a deserted island. Pirates, bad guys, and even fun-loving little boys bury treasure. To find it you need a special treasure map.
The Bible is God's treasure map. Our reward; our "gold" is living in heaven with Him someday. But sometimes we need help "reading" the map and understanding its mystery language. When adults say "light as a feather" or "strong as an ox", we know what they mean. It is very clear that something doesn't weigh very much or that it is very strong. When the Bible speaks in mystery language it may not be so obvious. Why are we called a pot, a sheep, or a branch? Why is Jesus called a Potter, a Shepherd, a Vine, or even a Ladder?
These 45 daily digs into God's Word give kids some of the clues and discoveries they need to reach life's reward (their treasure) with God the Father someday. Since a donkey is mentioned more than 100 times in the Bible, it is part of the fun and adventure to have "Victor" help us out. "Discovery" involves searching, exploring, digging, and finding something good! The Bible is full of word treasure clues; words that put a picture in our minds to make our journey on this earth a discovery of truth.
Adults call Bible word treasures metaphors, similes, and imagery. It's called "freedom language" in Romans 6:19 from the Message. Paul says, "I'm using this freedom language because it is easy to picture." After each daily dig, there is a list of the Bible verses where the clues can be found. BUT... you have to "Dig Deeper" in the back of the book to find out exactly what those verses say. The versions chosen enable young children to understand. There is also an interactive activity that parents and grandparents can help with. This book will cause children to smile, laugh, think, and ponder. But most of all they will discover the pathway to gold--freedom language for Heaven.

An Invitation to Contemplate the Nature of God's Divine Aseity
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." The very first words of Scripture reveal a reality that should fill us with awe. God, acting independently, spoke creation into existence. He made everything from nothing, and the entirety of creation depends on him for all of eternity. But sometimes we can become so focused on what is practical or plausible that we lose the childlike wonder to behold the living God.
These foundational truths demonstrate God's aseity—his self-existence, complete independence, and eternal nature. As part of the Contemplating God series, this book offers an accessible and engaging exploration of divine aseity. Blending theological depth, readability, and literary creativity, Samuel G. Parkison welcomes readers into the riches of the classical Christian tradition, inviting them to marvel at the wondrous mysteries of God.

    - Explores Divine Aseity: Reflects on God's independent and eternal nature, and invites believers to consider how we participate in his eternal life
    - Part of the Contemplating God Series: Each book offers an accessible gateway into a specific topic of classical theology, helping laypeople embrace truths from the historic church
    - Written for Lay-Readers: A non-intimidating and thoroughly enjoyable introduction that informs the mind while providing awe, wonder, and wisdom
    - Literary: Inspired by writers like C. S. Lewis and G. K. Chesterton, this essay speaks to the reader through the beauty of language
