This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. "Listen to me, Stasha," Rutka grasped both her friend's hands and confided to her about the diary she is writing. "Soon, according to the rumors, they will transfer us to the ghetto in the Kamionka neighborhood. It is a closed ghetto, surrounded by a wall. Before they take us away from here, I will hide the diary. I have it all planned. I will hide it on the staircase leading to the apartment entrance... Please, make sure to take it with you after we are no longer here."
The diary that Rutka hid in the staircase, was discovered sixty long years later and that is how this book came to be written The book spans the entire twentieth century up to the present. It tells the true-life story of Jacob, who was born into a Hasidic family in Bendzin, Poland, and chose a different path, under the influence of the ideological revolution and socialist movements that stirred Europe at the time. Towards the end of World War I, he made his way to Palestine with a group of friends, as a pioneer. He settled on a kibbutz in the Jordan Valley, while taking an active part in the significant events of the period. This is a story that begins with a sense of drive and youthful enthusiasm, and continues with a twist of fate, by which Jacob finds himself back in Poland, married and the father of two' when the ominous approach of the German Nazi Army draws near. Joining the narrative are his two daughters – Rutka in Poland and the narrator from Israel – who found each other sixty years later, thanks to the diary. Together they piece together secrets, loves, youthful adventures, the story of their father, and the thread of their lives.
Dr. Zahava Scherz (Laskier) was born and lives in Israel; she is married and the mother of a son and daughter. For four decades she has been an academic faculty member at the Weizmann Institute of Science, engaged in research and development in science education. She has published dozens of scholarly articles and scientific textbooks.

Manners for the Metropolis is Frank Crowninshield’s razor-sharp, satirical guide to navigating the absurdities of New York’s high society in the early 20th century. With biting wit and upper-crust irony, Crowninshield delivers a tongue-in-cheek manual for proper behavior among the elite—offering “guidance” on everything from dinner etiquette and bath timing to the politics of RSVPs and the social capital of automobile ownership.
Part mockery, part mirror, this humorous exposé of "The 400" pokes fun at the pomp and posturing of the privileged class, leaving modern listeners both amused and astonished at the timelessness of social pretense. Narrator Mark Cohan brings just the right tone of charm and snark to this breezy, sophisticated romp through the gilded labyrinth of polite society.
Perfect for fans of satire, history, and vintage New York glamour.

Katharine Jenkins offers an introduction to feminist philosophy, giving the listener an idea of what it is, why it is important, and how to think about it. She explores key topics such as gender oppression, beauty, objectification, and sexuality. Moreover, she considers questions about the relation between the personal and the political, what it is to be a woman, whether there is a distinctive kind of women's knowledge, and what feminist philosophy can bring to our understanding of such aspects of our world as justice, work, and the environment. Feminist Philosophy takes a richly intersectional approach, recognizing the combined impact of such factors as race and class as well as gender.

We broke our new series on learning German down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise German. The sample will give you a taste of what you can look forward to.
In Unit 1 you will hear German decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native German speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand German. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in German at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken German, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.
