  My Secret Life is an anonymously penned memoir written during a period from the 1840s to the 1880s by a wealthy and sex obsessed English gentleman who refers to himself simply as ‘Walter’. Part confessional, part investigative erotic journalism, it meticulously documents every detail of the author’s prolific sexual encounters, offering us in the process an eye and thigh opening account of life behind closed doors in the Victorian age.
  
  Women, in both mind and body, were the all consuming object of Walter’s interest. From early youth through to old age his quest for erotic discovery and adventure with them was never diminished.
  
  Unlike contemporary 19th century erotic texts, such as The Pearl, whose sole object was to titillate, Walter’s interest in his subjects did not end with the extinguishing of the carnal flame. His hunger to understand the circumstances and minds of the women he encountered is never upstaged by the sex. Their potted life histories, their most intimate desires and acts were shared with him and in turn meticulously recorded by him, written down verbatim while still fresh in his mind.
  
  The resulting poignant record of a lost era and the intimate moments of the women who inhabited it offer us a remarkable insight into the 19th century that cannot be gleaned from any other source.
  
  The complete unabridged text is being released as a fully scored audiofilm (an audio book with accompanying music soundtrack) by film composer Dominic Crawford Collins.

  At the collège for a parent-teacher interview, I met my daughter outside in the courtyard and she showed me up to her classroom.   The Classic of Changes (I Ching / Yìjīng / 易經) is one of the oldest and most enduring texts in the Chinese literary tradition, and one of the oldest books on record. The trigrams and method are classically attributed to the culture hero and legendary emperor Fu Xi (c. 2800 BCE), who also invented fishing, hunting, music, writing, laws, and the calendar. Around 1000 BCE, King Wen of Zhou combined them into the 64 hexagrams and wrote the core judgements, followed by his son the Duke of Zhou, who wrote the line texts in the following century. The appendices, or Ten Wings, are traditionally attributed to the philosopher Confucius, though Legge's commentary throws significant doubt on this attribution. 
  Consulted for millennia as an oracle, a philosophical framework, and a guide to the patterns underlying human experience and the natural world, the Yìjīng has for millennia shaped the Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist traditions, as well as Chinese literature, art, medicine, and statecraft. 
  James Legge's was the first Professor of Chinese at Oxford and the principal translator of Sacred Books of the East. His translation was the first in English and remains a landmark of sinological scholarship. 
  Included here in full are Legge's substantial introductory essays, situating the text in its historical and cultural context; his careful translation of the core text (Jīng 經) with the judgements (Tuàn 彖) and line statements; and all of the Ten Wings (Shí Yì 十翼), including the Tuànzhuàn, Xiàngzhuàn, Xìcí, Wényán, Shuōguà, Xùguà, and Záguà.
