Beschreibung

In the picturesque town of Crestwood Haven, where tranquility masked a hidden darkness, two troubled teenagers, David and Alex, embarked on a journey that would shatter the innocence of their idyllic community.

United by their outcast status and a thirst for purpose, they delved into the shadows, seeking solace in forbidden knowledge and embracing the allure of malevolence. Their descent into depravity was swift and merciless, leaving a trail of shattered lives and broken dreams in their wake.

When a brutal crime of unimaginable horror shocks Crestwood Haven, the community is thrown into chaos. As the investigation unfolds, the twisted motives and malevolent desires of David and Alex come to light, exposing the dark recesses of the human psyche.

The trial of the century captivates the nation, as the world watches in disbelief at the extent of their crimes. The courtroom becomes a battleground, where the prosecution seeks justice for the victims and their shattered families, while the defense attempts to unravel the complex web of emotions and circumstances that led these young men down a path of destruction.

Beyond the courtroom drama, the tragedy leaves an indelible mark on Crestwood Haven. The community struggles to come to terms with the darkness that emerged from within its midst, grappling with the fragility of their once peaceful town. The aftermath of the crime ripples through the lives of the victims' families, leaving them to navigate the depths of grief and loss.

As the dust settles, Crestwood Haven is left to confront the haunting legacy of David and Alex's actions. Their story serves as a cautionary tale, a stark reminder of the devastating impact of unchecked emotions and the fragility of the human spirit. Will the town be able to heal and move forward, or will the darkness that consumed David and Alex forever cast a shadow over their once idyllic community?

Lafcadio Hearn was born on the 27th June 1850 on the Ionian isle of Levkás in Greece to a British Army officer and a Greek Mother.
His father, fearing for his career prospects at being married to a Greek Orthodox wife, sent them to Dublin whilst he continued to advance his career with further postings. Life there was difficult for mother and son. His father returned, wounded and traumatised, when Lafcadio was three. He annulled the marriage and she remarried but had to give up care of Lafcadio to her sister-in law.
After brief periods for Catholic education in England and France he emigrated to Ohio in the United States when he was 19, taking on a series of casual jobs before embarking on a career as a journalist, publishing poems and essays in Cincinnati. It was whilst here that he began a side-line in translating, starting with Gautier and Flaubert. He married in 1874 to a 20 year old African-American woman in violation of Ohio's anti-miscegenation law. The marriage soon failed.
In 1877 he relocated to New Orleans to write on a variety of themes before picking up a two year assignment from Harper’s to write in the West Indies, where he also wrote his first novel.
In 1890 Harper’s sent him to Japan. Here he left journalism and took the remarkable decision to become a schoolteacher in the north of Japan. Enraptured by the culture he was driven to explain it in various Western publications to those who had little, if any, knowledge of its culture. Within the year he had fallen in love with, and married, a high-born Japanese lady, together they would have four children.
In 1895 he became a Japanese national and took the name Koizumi Yakumo, Koizumi being his wife’s family name.
The following few years, whilst a professor of Literature at the Imperial University of Japan, were his most creative and admired period.
Lafcadio Hearn died of heart failure on the 26th of September 1904, in Tokyo, Japan shortly before leaving to deliver a series of lectures at Cornell University in New York State. He was 54.

How, where, and when had she left Europe to sail in America?Determined to find answers, solve the mystery, and restore Pax’s history, Kaci embarked on an unexpected journey spanning seven years and comprising three countries, thousands of miles, ten families, and a 2,000 year old tree—the oldest living oak in northern Europe. This is a memoir like no other; a quest and love story about a woman and a boat, written in prose that is poetic, spare and full of wisdom. A brave, inspiring story about preserving legacy and following questions wherever they may lead.MountBatten Best Book Award shortlist, 2018.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
What makes a person hold steadfast in their Faith amid profound trials? Faith Against Evil: Bonhoeffer's Stand in the Shadow of the Third Reich delves into this compelling question by examining the life and theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and theologian whose unwavering convictions led him to resist Nazi tyranny at great personal cost.
While Bonhoeffer's story of resistance is extraordinary, this study goes beyond mere biography. It explores the theological framework that fortified his resolve, asking whether specific beliefs or contextual factors provided the strength to endure when Faith was put to the ultimate test. By integrating Bonhoeffer's theological writings with the realities of his activism and suffering, this work sheds light on how theology can serve as a source of endurance.
This study is not simply an addition to the Bonhoeffer scholarship. Its purpose reaches further, offering insights into systematic theology and contributing to a broader understanding of perseverance in Faith.
Faith Against Evil, Bonhoeffer's Stand in the Shadow of the Third Reich, invites readers to reflect on the enduring power of Faith under pressure. It provides a foundation for future theological explorations into what sustains believers in the face of adversity. It is a resource for theologians, historians, and anyone seeking to understand the profound interplay between belief and resilience.

Shadows in the Dark by Marcus Hale is a journey into the chilling stories of ten lesser-known serial killers who escaped the spotlight yet left a trail of terror and tragedy. With meticulous research and haunting detail, Hale uncovers the lives of these "hidden" killers—men and women who exploited society's blind spots, targeting the vulnerable while slipping through the cracks of justice. Each chapter reveals the unsettling truths behind killers like the "Silent Tormentor," a nurse who took lives rather than saving them, or the "Widowmaker," who preyed on elderly tenants for profit.
This book doesn't just recount their crimes; it examines how each managed to operate for years undetected, the societal failings that allowed them to evade capture, and the impact on families whose loved ones were forgotten by history. Through Shadows in the Dark, Marcus Hale provides a powerful, unflinching look at the underbelly of human nature, reminding readers that sometimes the most terrifying monsters are those we never see coming.
