Sinopsis

In this captivating exploration of the urban experience, we journey into the heart of the city, a place of endless fascination and complexity. Through the eyes of its diverse inhabitants, we witness the kaleidoscope of human life that unfolds within its concrete canyons.

From the bustling streets to the hidden corners, the city pulsates with a unique energy, a symphony of sounds, smells, and sights that both exhilarate and overwhelm. It is a place of dreams and aspirations, where people from all walks of life come to reinvent themselves, to chase their fortunes, and to find their place in the world.

Yet, the city also has a darker side, a hidden underbelly of poverty, crime, and despair. It is a place where the gap between rich and poor is stark, where the powerful prey on the vulnerable, and where the marginalized struggle to survive.

But even in the midst of adversity, the human spirit shines through. In the city, we find resilience, hope, and a remarkable capacity for connection. We witness acts of kindness and compassion that remind us of our shared humanity. We see communities coming together to overcome challenges and create a better future for all.

This book is an ode to the city, a celebration of its vibrancy, its diversity, and its indomitable spirit. It is an exploration of the human condition, a reflection on the choices we make, the relationships we forge, and the legacy we leave behind.

With its rich tapestry of characters and its evocative prose, this book captures the essence of the urban experience, inviting readers to ponder the complexities of city life and to discover the beauty and resilience that can be found even in the most challenging of circumstances.

From breasts and orgasms to periods, pregnancies, and menopause—A Brief History of the Female Body is a fascinating science book explaining the mysteries of the female body through an evolutionary lens.

Let's face it: The female body is an enigma. For teenagers first experiencing their periods, the monthly arrival of mood swings and cramps can be agonizing and inconvenient. With pregnancy—perhaps the most miraculous of bodily events—comes countless potential complications, including high blood pressure, diabetes, premature birth, and postpartum depression. And menopause is equally mystifying. Why do females lose their fertility over time and experience the notorious side effects—like hot flashes, weight gain, and hair loss—while males maintain their fertility forever?

Evolutionary geneticist and educator Dr. Deena Emera has spent much of her career studying the evolution of female reproduction. A Brief History of the Female Body draws on her vast expertise as a biologist, her experience as a mother of four children, and her love of teaching to look far into our evolutionary past, illuminating how and, more importantly, why the female form has transformed over millions of years and its effects on women's health.

This definitive biography of Anne Boleyn establishes her as a figure of considerable importance and influence in her own right.

Anne Boleyn is the most notorious of England’s queens, but more famous for her death as an adulterer than for her life. Henry’s second wife and mother of Elizabeth I, Anne, was the first English queen to be publicly executed. Yet what do we know of the achievements and the legacy of her short reign?

In The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn: The Most Happy, Eric Ives provides the most detailed and convincing portrait we have of the queen. He reveals a person of intellect with a passion for the new culture of the Renaissance, a woman who made her way in a man’s world by force of education and personality. She played a powerful and independent role in the faction-ridden court of Henry VIII and the unceasing struggle for royal favour that was Tudor politics. The consequences can still be detected today. Indeed, Ives shows that it was precisely because Anne was a powerful figure in her own right that a coup was needed to bring her down. She had to be stopped – even by a lie. In this book, you will find:
A full biography of Anne Boleyn, based on the latest scholarly research.A focus on Anne’s life and legacy and establishes Anne as a figure of considerable importance and influence in her own right.Exploration of whether Anne was an adulteress or innocent victim, with a fresh look at the issues at the heart of Anne's downfall. Her important history as a patron of the arts, particularly in relation to Hans Holbein.Evidence about Anne’s spirituality and her interest in the intellectual debates of the period.

Guy W. Ballard (July 28, 1878-December 29, 1939) and his wife, Edna Anne Wheeler Ballard, founded the I AM Movement. Ballard served in the US Army in World War I and then became a mining engineer. Both he and Edna studied theosophy and the occult extensively. In 1930 Ballard visited Mount Shasta in California, where he met another hiker who identified himself as the Count of St. Germain. These experiences are recorded in the three books Ballard wrote using the pen name Godfre Ray King. The I AM movement was one of the most successful, flamboyant, and controversial of the late 1930s. Ballard's teachings form the original nucleus for what are today called the Ascended Master Teachings and are still being taught by I AM sanctuaries all over the world.

The effort to destroy facts and make America ungovernable didn't come out of nowhere. It is the culmination of seventy years of strategic denialism. In On Disinformation, Lee McIntyre shows how the war on facts began, and how ordinary citizens can fight back against the scourge of disinformation that is now threatening the very fabric of our society. Drawing on his twenty years of experience as a scholar of science denial, McIntyre explains how autocrats wield disinformation to manipulate a populace and deny obvious realities, why the best way to combat disinformation is to disrupt its spread, and most importantly, how we can win the war on truth.

McIntyre goes through the history of strategic denialism to show how we arrived at this precarious political moment and identifies the creators, amplifiers, and believers of disinformation. On Disinformation lays out ten everyday practical steps that we can take as ordinary citizens—from resisting polarization to pressuring our Congresspeople to regulate social media—as well as the important steps our government (if we elect the right leaders) must take.

On Disinformation empowers us to save our republic from autocracy before it is too late.

"Blood in the Water is a twisty true crime narrative of greed, suspicion, and revenge, taking us from the high seas to the mansion of an enormously wealthy family. Compelling and cinematic, it keeps you guessing about the complicated family at the heart of this saga until the very last page."—Shawn Cohen, New York Times bestselling author of College Girl, Missing

Troubled waters hide deadly secrets …

When Nathan Carman, a young man with a complicated past, is miraculously rescued from a lifeboat bobbing in the unforgiving North Atlantic, questions swirl about the fate of his mother, who is presumed to have drowned when their fishing boat sank. Nathan is in remarkably good shape for being lost at sea for a week, and his account of what exactly happened out there on the waves raises questions from family members and law enforcement.

Nathan's story of a fishing trip gone awry doesn't quite add up, and suspicion mounts. The mysterious murder of Nathan's multi-millionaire grandfather a few years before had made Nathan's mother an extremely wealthy woman. With a seven-million-dollar fortune at stake, did Nathan commit the ultimate betrayal? Or is there more to this tragic tale than meets the eye?

From New York Times bestselling author Casey Sherman comes a gripping contemporary true crime narrative for everyone who was fascinated by the Murdaugh murders, and for anyone compelled by the intersection between money, power, and family.
