    POKÉMON
THE ULTIMATE TRIVIA AND CURIOUS FACTS COLLECTION

    CREATED BY TRIVIA HUB

The Pokémon franchise began with Pocket Monsters Red and Green in 1996. It features creatures called Pokémon that humans coexist with. Players take the role of a Pokémon Trainer, who explores the world, catches Pokémon, and battles. The franchise includes video games, anime, and trading cards. The name "Pokémon" is an abbreviation of "Pocket Monsters". The franchise's primary target audience is children aged 5 to 12, but it attracts people of all ages. The franchise was conceived by Satoshi Tajiri, who was inspired by his childhood hobby of collecting insects. As of January 2024, 1,025 Pokémon species have been introduced.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

The Pokémon franchise was created by Satoshi Tajiri, who as a child enjoyed collecting insects and other small creatures. This childhood hobby inspired the concept of catching and collecting Pokémon in the game.

The initial idea for Pokémon involved using the Game Boy's link cable to allow players to exchange creatures, an idea inspired by the random item appearances in the game Dragon Quest II. Tajiri realized the cable could be used for something other than competing.

Gashapon capsules, toy-filled capsules from vending machines, were also an inspiration for the way Pokémon are captured and stored. The idea of miniaturized creatures stored in capsules was influenced by the show Ultraseven.

The original name for Pokémon was going to be Capsule Monsters, but it could not be trademarked, leading to the name Pocket Monsters, which was eventually shortened to Pokémon. The word "capsule" could not be used in the trademark.

WHAT DIFFERENCE CAN A DOG MAKE?
I was about to find out. For two decades, my life was a cesspool of codependency. Fear consumed me. Life wasn’t worth living. I’d “rescued” the two addicts in my life—one an alcoholic, another a crack addict. Then a puppy I’d foolishly gifted to my crack addict became “my” puppy when I learned it was destined to be traded for crack. I wholeheartedly resented the puppy because the damned thing was always happy, and I was always sad. As a way out of my spiraling life, I attempted suicide one night. I awakened in the morning to kids knocking on my camper door, wanting to play with the puppy. Fifteen minutes later, the puppy screamed in pain. I just knew he’d been hit by a car, likely dying, because everything in life was bad. I opened the camper door, expecting the worst, but the puppy had simply run into a parked car and hurt his paw. The puppy was crying, the kids were crying, and then I too began to cry … uncontrollably.
Suddenly, the puppy and I were one, both in pain. An epiphany…a Helen Keller-like breakthrough that changed my life forever. I suddenly realized he’d tried to bring healthy people into my life, breaking the chains of codependency. I slept with that puppy in my arms for three days. Upon awakening, I looked deeply into his eyes, and promised him I’d share him with the world.
That puppy, my Booster, saved my life … twice! In My Booster, international service dog advocate and author Davis Hawn lays bare his life in the incredible story of Booster. Engaging, enlightening, hilariously funny and heartbreaking at the same time, their story shows the true power of the canine-human bond.

‘A lyrical, amiable and educational celebration of what may be our greatest achievement: the chippy.’ Stuart Maconie
Step inside and unwrap this deliciously entertaining look at Britain’s national dish.
There is a corner of every town and city in Britain where the air is tangy with vinegar and the scent of frying. Following the irresistible lure, Daniel Gray ponders the magic of chippies and the delights they have sprinkled among us for the last 150 years as he investigates the social – and sociable – history of fish and chips.
Travelling to chippies from Dundee to Devon via South Shields, Oldham, Bradford, Bethnal Green, the Rhondda Valley and more – Daniel Gray explores our fish-and-chip nation to show how chippies have helped emancipate women, promote equality for immigrants and shape local and national identity.
Whether you were raised eating scraps of Wolverhampton’s orange chips, London’s ‘wallies’ or Hull’s chip spice – even if you think you know whether tea, Vimto or dandelion and burdock is the best accompaniment – this mouth-watering book is as much about who we are as what we eat.
In this top non-fiction, Gray takes us on a regional journey through the ethnic corners of Britain, from English chippies to Scottish fry-ups, and Welsh delights. His narratives, as crisp as the chips he describes, serve as essays on cooking, culture, and identity.
For fans of Jonathan Wilson (Kick and Run), Jon Spurling (Death or Glory), Alan Partridge (Alan Partridge), Tim Rich (On Days Like These), and Pen Vogler (Scoff).

America was built on white pine. From the 1600s through the Civil War and beyond, it was used to build the nation's ships and houses, barns, and bridges. Yet this popularity came at a cost: by the end of the nineteenth century, clear cutting had decimated much of America's white pine forests. In White Pine, ecologist and writer John Pastor takes listeners on walk through history, connecting the white pine forests that remain today to a legacy of destruction and renewal.

Since the clear-cutting era, naturalists, foresters, and scientists have taken up the quest to restore the great white pine forests. White Pine follows this centuries-long endeavor, illuminating how the efforts shaped Americans' understanding of key scientific ideas, from forest succession to the importance of fire. Pastor shows us why restoring the vitality of these forests has not been simple: a host of other creatures depend on white pine and white pine depends on them. In weaving together cultural and natural history, White Pine celebrates the way humans are connected to the forest—and to the larger natural world.

Today, white pine forests have begun to recover, but face the growing threat of climate change. White Pine shows us that hope for healthy forests lies in understanding the lessons of history, so that iconic species survives.
