The nature of those species will determine the shape of the civilisations that rise on the far side of tomorrow."Taming the Apocalypse" explores the long rise of humanity and agriculture, and suggests practical approaches that people everywhere can use to create new symbiotic relationships with organisms across the entire tree of life.

In art history, the term Romanesque art distinguishes the period between the beginning of the 11th and the end of the 12th-century. This era showed a great diversity of regional schools each with their own unique style. In architecture as well as in sculpture, Romanesque art is marked by raw forms. Through its rich iconography and captivating text, this work reclaims the importance of this art which is today often overshadowed by the later Gothic style.

Having flown an astonishing 400 different aircraft, as a licensed Category 1 test pilot and flight test instructor for both airplanes and helicopters, Chris Taylor is arguably one of the best qualified and widely experienced test pilots working today anywhere in the world.

After obtaining his private pilot’s license at the age of 17, Chris began his service flying career with the Royal Navy. He flew Wasp and Lynx helicopters from warships around the world under all kinds of circumstances.

After five years instructing, he then became a test pilot flying numerous types of experimental aircraft for research and development purposes, before returning to the Empire Test Pilot’s School as a tutor. Having served at Boscombe Down for 10 years, he joined the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority as an airplane and rotorcraft test pilot. With the closure of the CAA’s Flight Test Department, he went on to form his own company and has continued to test fly a wide variety of aircraft ever since.

Rather than the usual cutting-edge fast jets one associates with test pilots, Chris Taylor’s book covers general aviation aircraft, including testing homebuilt airplanes, helicopters and autogyros. It also features the testing of ex-military jets and warbirds such as the Fieseler Storch, Sea Fury, Spitfire and the Mustang.

As the author is someone who teaches test pilots how to become flight test instructors, the reader is privileged to be able to share in the ups and downs of aviation testing with one of the foremost test pilots of his era. Somehow, he still manages to find time to be a helicopter examiner and instructor for helicopters, airplanes and autogyros.

While Test Pilot will appeal to pilots of every era, it is aimed at the general reader who will be taken on a journey across the skies in almost every conceivable type of civil aircraft involving almost every imaginable flying incident.

  • Egyptian Hieratic and Demotic Scripts - A Study of Ancient Writing Systems - cover

    Egyptian Hieratic and Demotic...

The writing systems of ancient Egypt are among the most fascinating and intricate aspects of the civilization’s rich cultural heritage. These scripts not only served as practical tools for administration and communication but also held immense symbolic and ritual significance. The evolution of Egyptian scripts reflects the social, political, and religious transformations that took place throughout the millennia of Egyptian history.
Egyptian writing developed as a means of recording religious texts, administrative documents, literary works, and personal correspondence. Among the earliest and most iconic forms of writing is the hieroglyphic script, characterized by its detailed pictorial symbols. While hieroglyphs are often associated with monumental inscriptions and sacred texts, they were not the only writing system employed by the ancient Egyptians. As the civilization advanced, the need for more practical and expedient writing methods became apparent, giving rise to the development of cursive scripts.
Hieratic script emerged as a more fluid and practical adaptation of hieroglyphs, primarily used for religious texts, administrative records, and personal documents. Unlike the elaborate and artistic nature of hieroglyphs, hieratic writing was simplified, making it faster to write and more suited for daily use. Its cursive nature allowed scribes to quickly document information on papyrus, ostraca, and other media. Despite its practicality, hieratic remained closely tied to its hieroglyphic origins, preserving many of the same signs and structures.
