  Exploring My Limits is a W. F. Howes Audio Original, written and recorded by Dwayne Fields: adventurer, explorer, presenter and the first black British person to reach the magnetic north pole. 
   
  As a young child in wild Jamaica, Dwayne Fields loved both nature and wildlife. Yet after moving to the UK at the age of six, his formative years were in the concrete jungle of inner-city London, where he became a victim of both knife and gun crime. In 2010, following a life-threatening incident, Dwayne made the decision to change his path, and his life, forever. 
   
  Dwayne set himself the challenge of becoming the first black British person to reach the magnetic North Pole. Upon doing so he was invited to Buckingham Palace, joining other polar explorers and adventurers at a reception to mark the centenary of Scott’s expedition to the South Pole. 
   
  His drive to engage and enthuse a new generation with our natural spaces, the climate challenges we face, and adventure, have led to Dwayne working on a variety of projects with household names such as Will Smith, Bear Grylls, Ellie Simons and Tim Peak. He is dedicated to inspiring young, underprivileged people to explore the ‘great outdoors’ – and in doing so push past society’s expectations of them and smash their own self-imposed boundaries. 
  In a series of frank and insightful conversations – with people ranging from fellow mould-breakers to world-famous explorers – Dwayne questions where those limits are, why they are in place, and what we can do to break them down in order to improve and change lives.

  Dwayne Fields is an acclaimed explorer and the UK’s Chief Scout. Amongst other accolades, Dwayne’s TV series Endurance: Race to the Pole with Ben Fogle was nominated in the 2024 BAFTA awards, and Dwayne has been awarded the City of London’s highest honour, ‘The Freedom of the City of London’ by the Lord Mayor for his work with young people.

  Throughout the long centuries of human history is the want, and the need, to share information, to exchange ideas and for that knowledge and experience, for curiosity and learning, to be the basis of a civil society. 
  In literature the ambition is much narrower.  In order to be known, to be popular, you had to be published.  And for that people had to know you existed and your ideas worth reading.  Obviously for most of humanity’s time people couldn’t read and texts couldn’t be published in any great number. 
  In the 15th Century Gutenberg’s printing press began the revolution to address the second and by the 19th century had gathered pace with startling speed and mass distribution.  Education for the many was brought in to help people understand more of their world and, with new skills, how to have a better place within it.  Now, if the powers that owned the presses and means of distribution agreed an audience would now be able to avail themselves of your ideas, your printed words.  
  All too often the talents of women have been scorned, mocked and laughed at.  In reality that was more usually by those who’s own talents were hardly fit to even grace their shadows.   
  But society in general still connived and set women to one side in almost everything that men considered their rightful territory.  And literature was one such territory.  Remarkably resilient as well as talented these women strove to be published, to show themselves as equals.  The results more often than not proved that they were.  
  Sadly, in the thirst for the new, the recent and the past fell from sight, relegated to dark corners and dusty shelves.    
  But the printed word is rarely without someone, somewhere busying themselves through piles of papers and books rediscovering what a good story is, whatever its age. 
  In this volume we offer up a small selection of talents from the literary landscape of 1800 to 1849 and the Women authors whose time has now come again.

  This is the audiobook of Part 1 of my memoir, My Amazing 35 Year Journey Abroad which I am reading to you myself. Voila! I open the book at a time in my life when I was living in an unheated garage in the dead of winter in Chicago and that came about because of my alcoholism. The year was 1981 and I was 28 years old. By this time in my life I had been kicked out of college, fired from 2 jobs including being fired by my father for crashing my company car drunk, divorced once with another one on the way, and I was broke and jobless. I would then pick myself up and brush myself off and get hired as a stockbroker by Dean Witter Reynolds. I would then blow that great opportunity by, you guessed it, abusing alcohol, and after working for 3 different brokerage houses, I would then quit drinking, start my modeling career, take an inadvertent 1 week ski trip to Austria, and then decide not to get on that return flight to Chicago, but instead would take a train from innsbruck to Nice, France where I would work as a model and actor, and then after a few months in Nice, I would move to Paris where I would live for 6 or so months, and then because of a suggestion from a photographer during a job there, I would end up flying to Singapore where I would work as a model and actor there, then after about 6 months there, I would end up moving to NYC to study acting and work as an actor there, and during my day job, I worked as a skate guard at Rockefeller Center where I would work with LIberace during his show there celebrating the skating rinks 50th birthday and there are photos in the book to prove it. Then from NYC I would move to Hong Kong where I would work as a featured actor in 4 movies, including a role in Kickboxer. I would then move to Bangkok, Thailand where I would start my nudie photography career and become the most prolifice photographer of naked Asian girls in the world. It is now 2024 and I am still in Thailand, retired here at the age of 70.
