  Resting Bitch Face is a book for women, for Black women, for lovers of art and film criticism, and for writers interested in work that finds a middle ground between poetry and prose. Taylor Byas uses some of our most common ways of "watching" throughout history (painting, films, sculpture, and photographs) to explore how these mediums shape Black female subjectivity. 
   
   
   
  From the examination of artwork by Picasso, Gauguin, Sally Mann, and Nan Goldin, Byas displays her mastery of the poetic form by engaging in intimate and inventive writing. Fluctuating between watcher and watched, the speaker of these poems uses mirrors and reflections to flip the script and talk back to histories of art, text, photography, relationships, and men. From Polaroids to gesso primer to sculpture, Byas creates a world in which the artist calls out and the muse responds. For not only does she enter the world of the long-revered classic artist, but she also infuses her poems with such iconic pop culture works as The Joker, WandaVision, and Last Tango in Paris.

  Dying To End It

  When Frank’s wife of many years is killed in a car accident and he is left badly injured, he quickly grows tired of life. No longer wishing to be a burden on his daughters who are missing out on their own lives by having to care for him, he hatches a plan. 
  Heading off out onto the mean streets of New York, the city he grew up in, Frank decides that he will find a way to end his life there without resorting to the sin of taking it himself. 
  However, his plans are thrown into confusion when he bumps into an old friend, Carlo. In years gone by Frank had helped Carlo, who was part of the Mafia, with fraudulent insurance claims but had turned his back on a life of crime, leading to Carlo being demoted by his bosses. 
  Now, the two old friends catch up on past times as Frank’s plans for his final hours slowly draw closer. But Carlo has a dark secret that he has kept from Frank. The resentment he had been carrying after being betrayed by his friend had been allowed to fester and boil to the surface, and now he is about to reveal the full shocking truth of his actions to him. 
  How will Frank react? Will he still be able to find a way to end his life on his terms? Or is that nagging feeling at the back of his mind about to show him something terrifying?

  My Mother's Funeral: The Show

  Abigail's mum is dead. But it turns out she can't afford her to be. Did you know how expensive it is to die? It's £4,000 for the funeral. Extra for flowers. And even more if you want sausage rolls. Otherwise, she'll get a council funeral and an unmarked grave.
  In her work as a playwright, Abigail has been asked to write about something raw, from her 'unique working-class lens'. Something that will make the audience feel gratifyingly bad about themselves. And so, to afford the funeral, she has to write about her mum.
  Kelly Jones's My Mother's Funeral: The Show playfully tackles the inequalities we face around death, and the cost of turning your loved ones into art. It was co-produced by Paines Plough; Mercury Theatre, Colchester; Belgrade Theatre, Coventry; Landmark Theatres and Royal & Derngate, Northampton – and premiered in 2024 at the Belgrade, before a UK tour including a run at Paines Plough's Roundabout at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won a Fringe First Award and a Summerhall Lustrum Award.

Accidentally stumbling through a portal that launches them across the Multiverse, Amber embarks on a journey that will force them to question who they are and who they want to become. As they tumble through time and space, will they finally find somewhere they belong? 
  Lewis Hetherington's play The Multiverse is Gay! was first performed at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, in a production by the Lyceum Young Company.

  An entrancing tale of fate, family and unseen forces in 1980s Ireland, Conor McPherson's play The Brightening Air was the winner of the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. It was first performed at The Old Vic, London, in 2025, directed by the playwright.
