Sinopse

'Terminally Poetic is charged with desperation. It's written from an opium den of wasted Australian stereotypes in the Grub Street of the mind. Ouyang Yu puts the alien back in Australian. No one is spared in this exposé of Australian letters, certainly neither the poet nor his reader. A book to climb up in love with.' - Steve Brock

'Terminally Poetic is Ouyang Yu working through the colonial alphabet and undoing it and himself at various turns and forks in the road. This is the individuated poet - one of the most committed poets who undoes poetry as an act of principle, who asks questions of 'who's to blame' in startling and nuanced ways - counting down (or up) through the letters so we can make new words from the poems. He confronts reductionism by disowning it while experiencing it, he confronts expectations of style and mode of writing it by writing it and then laughing at himself and the expectations of his readers. Excoriating and yet strangely vulnerable, the poet takes on the poet and poetry's failure to be noticed, to matter, to be what it wants to be.' - John Kinsella

LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of Cana by James Freeman Clarke, from The World's Best Poetry, edited by Bliss Carman. This was the Weekly Poetry project for November 14th, 2010.Trivia: After hearing the song "John Brown's Body", Clarke suggested that Mrs. Julia Ward Howe write new lyrics; the result was "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". He published but few verses, but at heart was a poet. (summary by Wikipedia)

Hollywood is indelibly printed in our minds as the ‘go-to’ place for entertainment and has been for decades. When there really did seem to be more stars in Hollywood than in Heaven Hollywood Stage had them performing films as radio plays – on the sponsors dime of course. Classic films now become audiobooks with many featuring the original stars from way back when. Here's Little Women starring June Allyson & Peter Lawford.

    O Positive - Poetry

O Positive is the long-awaited debut collection of poetry from Joe Dunthorne, and it has all the appeal of his widely acclaimed fiction.Adopting a sunny, genial tone, Dunthorne lures the listener to darker places, exploring death and dread, failure and regret — the 'lounge of our suffering'. Often, he catches us off-guard: a 'whiplash' effect where poems shift from laughter to slaughter in a moment. Impertinent owls, an immersive theatre troupe, ancient men from the Great War and idiot balloonists — such characters dramatise our human fancies and foibles, joining the protagonist in scenarios both humorously bizarre and all too familiar. These performances serve to probe and unpeel the layers of the self — all the way down to the raw.
