Sinopsis

'South Wind' is a novel by British author Norman Douglas. It is Douglas's most famous book and his only success as a novelist. It is set on an imaginary island called Nepenthe, located off the coast of Italy in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a thinly fictionalized description of Capri's residents and visitors. The narrative concerns twelve days during which Thomas Heard, a bishop returning to England from his diocese in Africa, yields his moral vigor to various influences.

She wonders what part this plays in the obsessive way she is drawn into relationships. A corpse on the observation deck. A missing set of equations that could reshape humanity’s future. And a witness who sees reality in a way no human mind can fully understand. Damon Knight’s The Star Beast opens with the brutal murder of Professor Thomasson, the only man who had successfully derived the formulas for faster-than-light space travel. His death on the starship President Marcus sends shockwaves through the crew, but nothing is more alarming than the only being who saw the crime unfold: Oscar, a shapeless alien whose senses bear no resemblance to our own.
Oscar doesn’t see faces. He doesn’t hear voices. He doesn’t read gesture or expression. Instead, he perceives radiant auras, shadow nuclei, and strange internal patterns that humans cannot interpret. When the crew asks Oscar to identify the killer, he points to multiple passengers—ambassadors, wives, captains, even the very Security agents charged with solving the murder. What begins as a procedural investigation becomes a deep dive into the limitations of human understanding. How do you solve a crime when your only evidence comes from a mind alien to everything you assume about identity? Knight transforms the familiar “locked-room mystery” into something far stranger and more unsettling, blending suspense, science fiction, and psychological tension with masterful precision.
Damon Knight stands as one of the foundational figures of modern science fiction. Renowned for his razor-sharp prose and his ability to deconstruct genre conventions, Knight wrote with a clarity and wit that made his stories both entertaining and intellectually provocative. He founded the legendary Milford Writer’s Conference, co-founded the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and played a crucial role in shaping the careers of countless authors through mentorship and editorial work.

The Gods of Bal-Sagoth is an adventure-fantasy story by Robert E. Howard, first published in 1931. The tale follows Turlogh Dubh O'Brien, an Irish warrior and mercenary, who finds himself caught in a storm at sea and cast ashore on a mysterious, uncharted island. There, he encounters Athelstane, a Viking prince who leads him to the legendary lost city of Bal-Sagoth. The city, once ruled by an ancient, god-like race, is now in decline, its people divided and warring among themselves.Turlogh and Athelstane become embroiled in the city's violent political struggles as they seek to escape its treacherous rulers and fanatical high priests. The rulers of Bal-Sagoth worship ancient gods, who are said to have immense power over the city's fate. The story is rich with themes of forgotten civilizations, violent ambition, and supernatural forces.Howard's storytelling style is fast-paced, filled with vivid descriptions of the decaying city, brutal combat, and larger-than-life characters. The tale explores Howard's signature themes of barbarism versus civilization, and the looming presence of ancient, forgotten gods. The Gods of Bal-Sagoth is a thrilling mix of sword-and-sorcery adventure and dark fantasy.
