Just who is the Secret Agent [Delta] of a certain embassy? Just who is Mr Verloc? The proprietor of a certain shop on Brett Street? The Vice-President of a certain revolutionary committee? Forced into a corner by his superiors, he acts in desperation and disaster awaits. A tale of anarchy and realism, by Joseph Conrad, first published in 1905, it is considered one of his great city novels, as well as a great novellestic study of terrorism and it's proponents. Narrated by Michael Ward.Ver livro
“An excellent read….Concrete evidence of a master crime writer still at the top of his game.”—Russel D. McLean, author of The Good Son“The reigning King Daddy of crime writers” (Seattle Times), Elmore Leonard first introduced quick-triggered legendary lawman Carl Webster in the New York Times bestseller, The Hot Kid, and brought him back for an encore Up in Honey’s Room. In Comfort to the Enemy and Other Carl Webster Stories, the loose cannon U.S. marshal struts his stuff once more in three electrifying new tales. Comfort to the Enemy is more indisputable proof that Elmore Leonard is indeed, as Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Shutter Island) puts it, “The greatest crime writer who ever lived.”Ver livro
They say evil can take many forms . . . I learned that first hand at the age of seventeen. My mother's third husband was the preacher . . . a man of the cloth who had a secret agenda within our small Southern community. My name is Sunny Gardner. And Layton, Alabama is my home, or least it had been until the preacher came into our lives. A minister who preached the Word, but lived a lie. But the folks in this town had closed their eyes and ears to the truth once they fell under the preacher's spell. As it turned out, I'm the one they believed was evil. I'm the one who was shamed into leaving town. This is my story. A story of struggle and triumph and, ultimately, a story of how I saved myself and my community from the devil himself. In January 1903, at Baker Street, James M. Dodd comes to Holmes with a strange story regarding his friend, Godfrey Emsworth. Dodd and Emsworth served in the Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Second Boer War. Emsworth was sent home after being treated for a bullet wound; hearing nothing from his friend for quite some time afterwards, Dodd began to suspect something was amiss. Dodd wrote to Colonel Emsworth, Godfrey's father, and was told Godfrey had gone on a voyage round the world for his health. Dodd found it odd that Godfrey himself had not written to him about this matter, and managed to convince Godfrey's mother to invite him to the Emsworth family home, Tuxbury Old Park, near Bedford. There were four people there—the Colonel and his wife, and an old butler and his wife. The irritable Colonel repeated the story about his son's world voyage, implied Dodd was lying about knowing Godfrey, and abruptly refused Dodd's request for Godfrey's contact information.Ver livro
