Sinopsis

A full account of the Luzon campaign, from the planning stages to the surrender of the Japanese general Yamashita.

The Luzon campaign of 1945 was the longest island campaign of the Pacific War, lasting from January 1945 to September 1945, and only ended with the surrender of Imperial Japan. It is often overlooked or mentioned in passing by most histories of that war, yet hundreds of thousands of Americans and Japanese fought in some of the worst conditions imaginable for eight months to clear Luzon of the invaders.

This full account of the Luzon campaign stretches from planning stages to the end of the war and the surrender of over 50,000 Japanese troops under the noted Japanese general Yamashita. The landings at Lingayen Gulf, the Battle for Manila and the recapture of Corregidor are all included, as well as lesser-known battles for the summer capital of Baguio, the battle for Manila's water supply, constant jungle fighting, the raids to rescue Allied POWs, the recapture of Bataan, destruction of the only Japanese armored division to fight in the Pacific, American parachute drops on Corregidor and Aparri, and much more. Individual acts of heroism are highlighted as are the interactions among the senior commanders involved, including General MacArthur, General Krueger (6th Army) and General Eichelberger (8th Army). The book ends with the surrender of Imperial Japan and the end of the Luzon Campaign in September 1945.

Social justice work is more crucial than ever, but it can be physically and emotionally draining. Longtime activist Denise Collazo offers three keys to help Hispanic women keep their focus, morale, and energy high.

Winner of the gold medal at the International Latino Book Awards for Best Latina-Themed Book and Best Self-Transformational Book!

Doing the work of social change is hard. Waking up every day to take on the biggest challenges of our time can be overwhelming, and sometimes progress is hard to see. And Latina activists face the additional challenges of racism and sexism in a predominantly white, patriarchal society.

Denise Collazo has been there. She is the first Latina, the first woman of color, and the first woman period to raise a family and stay in the work of community organizing at Faith in Action, an international progressive network of 3,000 congregations. Drawing on her own experiences and those of other Latina activists, Collazo lays out three keys to thriving in the movement for social change: leading into your vision, living into the fullest version of yourself, and loving past negatives that hold you back. She also warns about the three signs that you may be checking out, giving up, or passively standing by while problems get worse. This honest, practical, and inspirational book will help Latina activists to burn bright, not burn out.

Giftedness is a term often shrouded in mystery, misinterpretation, and myth. While society celebrates extraordinary achievements in art, science, and leadership, the inner world of gifted individuals is rarely understood in its full complexity. Being gifted encompasses more than intellectual brilliance or creative talent—it involves a rich tapestry of emotional depth, heightened sensitivities, and an intense drive for meaning and purpose. This book aims to explore these multifaceted dimensions of giftedness, shedding light on both the remarkable strengths and the unique challenges that come with it.

Gifted individuals often navigate a world that feels out of sync with their internal experiences. Their intense curiosity, rapid learning, and unique perspectives can set them apart, leading to feelings of isolation or misunderstanding. At the same time, they may face profound struggles—perfectionism, impostor syndrome, and heightened emotional intensity—that complicate their relationships, careers, and mental health. For many, giftedness is not a badge of privilege but a complex identity that requires understanding and support to fully thrive.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) has become a lightning rod in American politics and evangelical Christianity. This book offers a critical but constructive and sympathetic introduction to CRT written from a perspective rooted in Scripture and Christian theology. The authors take us beyond caricatures and misinformation to consider how CRT can be an analytical tool to help us understand persistent inequality and injustice—and to see how Christians and churches working for racial justice can engage CRT in faithful and constructive ways.

The authors explore aspects of CRT that resonate with well-trod Christian doctrine but also that challenge or are corrected by Christian theology. They also address the controversial connection that critics see between CRT and Marxism. Their aim is to offer objective analysis and critique that go beyond the debates about social identity and the culture wars and aid those who are engaging the issues in Christian life and ministry. Reflection/discussion questions, exercises, a glossary of key CRT terms, and suggested readings make the book helpful for students or small groups.
