Sinopse

An important book for readers of all ages, Irvine Press brings quality biographies for kids through engagingly written volumes of true-to-life stories of important figures in history.

Our message is simple: Dream Big, We'll Show You How.

Zachary Andres, Darrel Tan, and Chastity Clark are childhood friends and neighbors. They tend to play outside the house, enjoying their childhood. They also tend to go to school together, not until one day in their hideout, Chastity told them that her family is moving to another state. As the youngest, Darrel cried when he heard the news, but Chastity assures them that distance is just a number and no one will break their friendship. As Zach and Darrel roam around the school stage, knowing that the school will conduct a year end school play, Darrel comes up with the plan of surprising Chastity by hosting a surprise concert as a sendoff. Unfortunately, Mrs. Rosemarie Canaria, their sharp-eyed, surly principal, always observes and checks the school play's progress to deter any trouble. Will the friends be able to accomplish the surprise concert for their best friend without being caught by the principal?

Among these biographies, readers will find exceptional and notable men and women across varying disciplines to instill a sense of purpose and goal oriented living from an early age. Discover how each life was shaped and transformed through passion, determination, grit.

Lotte Reiniger (1899–1981) was a German film director and animator best known for The Adventures of Prince Achmed, which was released in 1926 and is the oldest surviving animated movie. (It came out a full eleven years before Disney’s Snow White!) As a little kid, Reiniger loved reading fairytales and fell in love with puppetry. At school, she learned about paperschnitte, or papercuts, which helped her create her signature style of silhouettes. She grew up to make more than forty films throughout her long career, most of which were fairytales that used her stop-film animation technique of hand-cut silhouettes. Reiniger is now seen as the foremost pioneer of silhouette animation and the inventor of an early form of the multiplane camera.

Slave of Eternity by Roger D. Aycock - An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth ... these were the familiar laws of man—Far more fiendish was Heric's punishment—eternal life for the death he'd taken!
"You have no choice," the patrolman said. "The Council sends for you."
He moved across the veranda of Heric's cottage, bulking dark against the sky-glow of Nyark the first city. On the slope of lawn below stood his copter, its beetle-black shell glistening faintly in the starshine.
Heric stood rigid with alarm in his doorway, still holding the book he had been reading. The night-wind ruffling his hair and the homely sounds from the kitchen where Marta prepared their evening meal made his danger doubly fantastic.
"They've found out somehow about my dreams," Heric said. "They'll put me through the adjuster and I'll come out of it—someone else. I won't go!"
He was a mild man, overseer of the cereal grain fields outside Nyark the first city, holding the confidence of his superiors and the respect of his workers. He and Marta had been happy in the quiet eddy of their isolation, until the dreams came.
The patrolman took a gleaming silver shock-cone from his belt. "I am sorry, Arnol Heric. You must come with me."
Stark panic made Heric drop his book and strike out wildly, smashing a fist into the officer's face. The patrolman staggered back, teetered for balance on the veranda's edge and fell heavily. The sound of his head striking the stone walkway below was as definite as the thud of a dropped melon.
Heric went down the steps and knelt to feel the man's limp wrist. There was no pulse. He put an ear to the slack lips, and there was no breath. Shock numbed him and drove his thoughts into strange, tortured channels.
    "I've killed him," he said.

Shandy by Ron Goulart is a witty, offbeat science fiction story that showcases his trademark blend of humor and human insight. At its heart is Nancy Tanner and her unusual companion, Shandy—a teddy bear, a lion, an ape, and something far stranger. What begins as a lighthearted look at affection and rivalry evolves into a reflection on identity and emotion in a world where technology and fantasy intertwine. Like much of Goulart’s work, Shandy balances satire and sentiment, using absurd situations to reveal truths about love, loneliness, and what it means to be human. His sharp dialogue and breezy style make the story both funny and unsettling, a perfect example of how he could infuse whimsy with warmth.
Ron Goulart (1933–2022) was one of the most versatile and prolific voices in American popular fiction. Born in Berkeley, California, he wrote hundreds of stories and novels across genres—science fiction, mystery, fantasy, and comic adventure—often marked by his quick wit and social satire. A frequent contributor to Galaxy and If magazines, Goulart was also known for his media tie-in novels and for reviving pulp heroes like The Avenger. Beyond fiction, he was a noted historian of comics and pulp literature, authoring nonfiction works such as Cheap Thrills and Comic Book Culture. Goulart’s writing combined humor with compassion, capturing the eccentricities of modern life and the absurdities of technology with a light but insightful touch. His work remains a bridge between the pulp era’s exuberance and the self-aware irony of modern speculative fiction.
