Sinopse

When Timothee leaves his home in France to attend law school in America, he believes he is doing what he has always been destined to do. His parents died when he was very young, and a note from his father is Timothee’s only connection to him. The letter compels Timothee to pursue law, even though it means giving up his filmmaking dreams. Not long after he gets to California, a mysterious envelope containing a strange script arrives on his doorstep, setting Timothee on a path he never imagined in his wildest dreams.Inspired by Old Hollywood, this intriguing noir novel set in 1960s Los Angeles is the perfect escape. It tells the tale of ambition, misplaced promises, hope, and the very real potential that the impossible might just be possible. All the while, unexpected friendships will be forged and rekindled, important questions will be answered, movie stars will be met, secrets will be uncovered and new ones will appear. Most important, though, is the question of where that script is coming from and whether Timothee will eventually find what he has spent his whole life looking for.

A storm-tossed ship drifts through the Caribbean, its weary crew praying for calm seas—and for mercy from something far worse than the wind. When a pirate known as the Scourge of the Caribbees anchors off a seemingly peaceful island, his men uncover an ancient terror that does not belong to this world. What begins as a tale of gold and glory soon turns to nightmare in the dark recesses of the ship’s hold.
Originally published in Weird Tales in February 1932, “The Horror in the Hold” captures everything readers love about early pulp horror—salt-stung realism, eerie supernatural undertones, and the creeping dread that Frank Belknap Long perfected. Long’s gift for atmosphere makes you feel the creak of timbers, the weight of the sea, and the presence of something watching from below decks.
Long was a central figure in the early Weird Tales circle, a close friend and correspondent of H. P. Lovecraft, and a vital voice in shaping twentieth-century speculative fiction. Born in New York City in 1901, Frank Belknap Long began publishing in the 1920s and went on to write across genres—science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and poetry. His work often bridged the gap between cosmic horror and adventure storytelling, bringing imagination and emotion to both.
Over his long career, Long received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement and the Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers Association. He wrote for more than half a century, influencing generations of writers who followed. Whether depicting ancient evils or distant planets, Long’s stories remind us that the unknown—like the sea—always hides something beneath the surface.

These are the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a plan of contemplation to be carried out over about a month. St. Ignatius of Loyola (1419-1556) was the founder of the Jesuits, and was canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. He published the Spiritual Exercises in 1548. The Exercises were intended for use by someone who would be conducting a retreat and are a series of notes on methods and things to cover. As such they read more like a manual and overview than a devotional book that one can look to for edification. They presume the person conducting the retreat or the exercises has already been through them. They are a central part of the first year training of Jesuit novitiates. However, one does not have to be a Jesuit-in-training to take advantage of the Exercises: Increasingly, lay people and even non-Catholics follow this path
