Sinopse

Susannah Mobley, expecting her slave lover’s baby, submits to an arranged marriage to Hezekiah James, who is headed to Texas to claim a land grant.

Caught in a series of lies about her pregnancy, as well as the beautiful ring woven from her red hair, Susannah embarks on the harsh trip to Texas, grieving for her lost love and determined to control her destiny.

On the wagon train journey, Hezekiah's beliefs and strength are tested by Native Americans and the strange Madstone. Soon, Susannah will have to decide if she can live with the consequences of her lies and open herself to the man who shows every form of contrition, or if she will allow longing for the child to destroy her life.

"Readers will be drawn in by McILvain’s characters, who are richly developed with powerful voices. The tension crafted between Susannah’s past and present is palpable throughout, and McILvain skillfully depicts her warring emotions” -BookLife Review-

An extraordinary novel about one of history's most reviled figures, written as an action-packed historical biographyFor three decades, until the day he collapsed in the Brazilian surf in 1979, Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death who performed horrific experiments on the prisoners of Auschwitz, floated through South America in linen suits, keeping two steps ahead of Mossad agents, international police, and the world's journalists. In this rigorously researched factual novel—drawn almost entirely from historical documents—Olivier Guez traces Mengele's footsteps through these years of flight. This chilling novel situates the listener in a literary manhunt on the trail of one of the most elusive and evil figures of the twentieth century.

The Fledglings examines the maturation of three young men in the crucible of the terrifying and bloody World War 1. Of course, their loss of innocence is not unique to war alone, but such an arena accelerates the process and is a much harsher compass. The time period is one of revolutionary change throughout the world, but nowhere is the transformation in the early Twentieth Century more pronounced than in warfare – killing has become a highly refined process and now even moved into the air. In the telling of the story, there is a great deal of aerial combat, many details of the techniques employed and specifies about the planes of that era.
