Hope for When the Pain Won't Quit

Everyone experiences pain at times. It can manifest physically, emotionally, relationally, or spiritually. It can follow tragic accidents, great loss, sudden betrayal, or unexpected and unwanted change. Often it is temporary. But what do you do when it isn't? When the pain just won't go away, when healing does not come, when the grief and hurt settle in?

Drawing on her own experience of chronic pain and her years as a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist, Dr. Michelle Bengtson provides a countercultural perspective on pain. Offering hope without any false promises or empty platitudes, Dr. Bengtson unwraps the complex emotional aspects of dealing with pain. She gives you permission to question God, helps you identify the lies you've believed about your pain, and reorients your perception based on the truth of God's Word. Each chapter ends with a recommended playlist, reflection questions, and a prayer.

Your pain may not change, but your experience of it can.

The most famous church in Jerusalem for nearly 2,000 years, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, often called the Church of the Resurrection, was built in the era of St. Constantine, and the church as a structure has no history separable from the city of Jerusalem and its environs. It is venerated as being on the site where Jesus was crucified and buried, and naturally, making it a crucial pilgrimage site for Christians, and it is now the home of the Greek Orthodox Jerusalem Patriarchate. Moreover, it was the site of many important councils, some of which altered Christian history forever. In short, the Sepulchre was and is synonymous with Jerusalem, and it was essentially the nodal center of the city. Naturally, the Church has had a turbulent history just as Jerusalem has. Under the Emperor Vespasian, Jerusalem was attacked and depopulated by Roman forces in 70 A.D., and from 131-134, the Jewish revolt invited another Roman reprisal. Over and over again, Jerusalem has been decimated, sacked and razed.
The temple built by Constantine was demolished by Jewish militants in 614 under the protection of the Persian Empire. There was an earthquake in 746, and a devastating fire in 967. The temple continued to experience ups and downs that are endemic and essential to its history. In 1036, the Islamic government permitted the rebuilding of the church, and in 1048, Constantine Monomakh improved on the new structure.
Christian Crusaders would famously conquer Jerusalem at the end of the 11th century, and over the ensuing centuries, Christians and Muslims were embroiled in one of the most infamous territorial disputes of all time, viciously and relentlessly battling one another for the Holy Land. Of course, this made the Church of the Holy Sepulchre a perfect target, so much so that a powerful company of knights was founded to guard the church and defend its presence with their lives.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
How can you understand the unseen spiritual warfare if you don't understand the physical warfare you can see?
Throughout these pages, we will explore Satan’s campaigns through the lens of modern military tactics—reconnaissance, deception, deterrence, attrition, psychological warfare, and more. Each chapter will pair historic battles with biblical truths, showing how earthly warfare mirrors the unseen conflict raging around us.
This book is designed as a field manual. Each chapter is built on a consistent structure to provide a comprehensive understanding of spiritual warfare by drawing direct parallels between military strategy and the unseen battles Christians face. By understanding this structure, you will be better equipped to use this guide effectively.
Each chapter is divided into four key sections:
Military Warfare: This section begins each chapter by explaining a specific phase or tactic of military warfare. Using historical examples from ancient and modern conflicts, it provides a solid foundation in the strategic principle being discussed.
Spiritual Warfare: This section draws the parallel between the military concept and the strategies used by Satan. It explores how the enemy employs similar tactics in his campaign against believers, using biblical examples and theological insight to expose his playbook.
Counterintelligence: This is your "how-to" section. It provides specific, actionable strategies that you, the believer, can implement to defend against and disrupt the enemy's plans. This is where strategic knowledge turns into personal application.
Biblical Assault: This section serves as our "after-action report," analyzing specific biblical case studies where the enemy's strategies were engaged. We will dissect how God’s people triumphed—or failed—and draw direct lessons on how to wage our own spiritual assaults with wisdom and power.
