    It's the middle of summer in Mirabeau, Texas, but already Garnet Hubbard looks forward to fall -- to entering seventh grade and becoming a teenager at last. With Opal, her beautiful and popular fourteen-year-old sister, as her guide, Garnet is sure to have a great year. But everything changes when their mother, Melanie, packs them up and heads for Nashville, determined to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a country singer. Almost before they know it, Melanie drops the girls at her sister's house in Oklahoma, assuring them she'll be back just as soon as she's settled in Tennessee. But when a few days turn into a few weeks and beyond, with no Melanie in sight, the girls begin to realize what has happened. While Opal soon becomes one of the most popular girls in school, her younger sister struggles. For Garnet, getting used to her new life means trying to figure out how to have pride in herself when it seems she has little to offer the world and the odds are stacked against her. With only each other to lean on, Melanie's "precious gems" must learn to live with the hand they've been dealt and to accept the changing face of their family. Set in the early 1960s and beautifully told by D. Anne Love, Semiprecious is a powerful, poignant, and often funny coming-of-age novel that will stay with readers long after the turn of the final page.

    Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,
    And can't tell where to find them;
    Leave them alone, and they'll come home,
    Bringing their tails behind them.
    Little Bo-Peep fell fast asleep,
    And dreamt she heard them bleating;
    But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
    For they were still all fleeting.
     This beloved nursery rhyme tells a story that is both a bit scary (she lost her sheep!) and funny (they lost their tails!). The poor tiny girl, trying to do a job that is quite hard for her with her short legs, becomes bewildered. But help is there in the shape of an old lady who first plays a trick on her, telling her that her sheep have lost their tails and she must find them and somehow put them back on. The distraught little BoPeep searches everywhere and when she finally does find the missing tails discovers the joke. But all ends well when the old woman tells her she doesn't need to sew them on because they didn't have any tails to begin with. Everyone has a good laugh and BoPeep lovingly hugs each sheep as they 'come home, wagging their tails behind them.'

    “Lynn Sheffield Simmons hits another home run in storytelling with her latest book Bo and the Night Intruder.” —Pete Incaviglia Bo’s undisciplined mischief has landed him and his owner, Mrs. Barnett, in the vet’s office—twice. Now in a splint and a special funnel-shaped collar, Bo is finally learning obedience. He even helps a new restaurant owner, the famous baseball player Pete Incaviglia, discover who has been breaking in and destroying the kitchen at night. This is not the first time Bo’s accidents and antics have ended up assisting police. In earlier Bo books, such as Bo, the Famous Retriever and Bo and the Missing Dogs, this bright and reliable labrador retriever manages to find clues in the most unlikely ways. In this adventure, Bo uncovers local importation of illegal aliens and saves a restaurant—and its valuable sports memorabilia—from destruction.

    A human boy and young Sasquatch explore the mysterious woods in this adventure by the author of The Squatchicorns.

    It’s a big day for Hugo, Boone, and the students at the Academy for Curious Squidges (a Squidge is a young Sasquatch). Today’s the day they’ll get their Bimbling Badge, which allows them to explore the North Woods on their own. But humans, snakes, and sinkholes aren’t the only things they have to look out for! The legend of a lizard-like monster lurking in the swamp is enough to spook any young Sasquatch. When Hugo, Boone, and Gigi find themselves stranded in the middle of Ripple Worm River, they discover that there are more mysterious creatures in the North Woods than they’d bargained for.
