Sinopse

In his comedic masterpiece, "The Learned Women," Molière deftly satirizes the pretensions of academicism and the societal constraints of 17th-century France. The play revolves around the tumultuous relationships within a household dominated by intellectual aspirations, particularly through the character of Philaminte, who is bent on acquiring knowledge at the expense of personal relationships. Molière's signature blend of farce, wit, and incisive dialogue illuminates the absurdity of elitism, while also exploring the tensions between traditional gender roles and the emergence of female intellect. The work reflects the broader literary context of the Enlightenment, challenging rigid norms of authority and education with humor and social critique. Molière, born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin in 1622, was a pioneering figure in French theater, celebrated for his sharp observations on human behavior and social norms. Raised in a prosperous family, he was exposed to the intricacies of Parisian society and its evolving intellectual climate. This background inspired him to pen works that fused satire with moral inquiry, making him a critical voice in literature. "The Learned Women" stands as a notable exemplar of his ability to navigate complex social themes with comedy and clarity. For readers seeking an engaging exploration of gender dynamics and intellectual dogma, "The Learned Women" offers both amusement and insight. Molière's keen social commentary resonates with contemporary audiences, making this play a timeless reflection on the pursuit of knowledge and the follies that accompany it. Essential for anyone interested in classic literature, this work invites contemplation on the relevance of its themes in today's world.

When the King of Barodia receives a pair of seven-league boots as a birthday present, his habit of flying over the King of Euralia's castle during breakfast provokes a series of incidents which escalate into war. While the King of Euralia is away, his daughter Hyacinth tries to rule in his stead and counter the machiavellian ambitions of the king's favourite, the Countess Belvane. Ostensibly a typical fairytale, it tells the story of the war between the kingdoms of Euralia and Barodia and the political shenanigans which take place in Euralia in the king's absence. The book introduces us to a princess who is far from helpless; a prince who, whilst handsome, is also pompous and vain; an enchantment which is almost entirely humorous; a villain who is not entirely villainous and receives no real comeuppance; a good king who isn't always good; an evil king who isn't always evil, and so on. The result is a book which children may not enjoy as much as adults. The book was written by Milne partly for his wife, upon whom the character of the Countess Belvane was partially based. Even people who claim to hate Shakespearean comedy have to admit that they love A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The original play is already naturally divided into three realms: the mortal world, the faerie realm and the play within the play, thus it presents the perfect opportunity to double and triple cast the same actors. So it was really only a matter of time till somebody came up with the crazy idea to stage the whole thing with only three people. Those crazy people are Tony Addison, John Burlinson and Sonia. The outcome of their collaboration is a 3 hour tour-de-force full of surprises: special effects, music, songs. True to the Shakespearean spirit, cross-gender casting was a must, so don't be alarmed when Titania (who will shatter all your preconceptions of the term "fairy queen" forever) enters the stage. Now you're forewarned, and if you still think you're ready, settle back in your armchair and let a bit of faerie into your world. We hope you enjoy the ride.(Summary by Tony Addison, John Burlinson and Sonia)

'It doesn't happen all the time. That you really connect with someone. It's rare to meet someone like you.'
Gabriel Dolan's never been up to much. That's what everyone says. Until she meets Alex, a young, ambitious woman who sells essential oils for a multi-level marketing company called Paradise – and overnight, Gabriel is drawn into a bright, new, floral-scented world.
In Paradise, you're your own boss. In Paradise, you could make a fortune. Embraced by a new community of women just like her, Gabriel rises through the ranks of the company like a shooting star. But when she gets to the top, it doesn't quite feel like she thought it would.
