Sinopse

Joe Knight spends his time daydreaming. It helps him cope with the bullies at his school, particularly the hideous new games teacher, Sirgiman, and the sinister headmaster.

On his 13th birthday, Joe receives a piano that looks like it first gigged at a dinosaur’s funeral. Worse, it comes with lessons from Ma Apples, who reminds him of a witch. Joe soon discovers that his piano has magical qualities: combinations of notes unlock portals revealing secrets about the bullies surrounding him.

The use of this knowledge, however, exposes him to dangers he didn’t anticipate, and he plans to give up the piano - until Ma Apples convinces him that he has been chosen as its keeper for a reason.

With Joe firmly in the sights of Sirgiman and the headmaster, he finds himself in grave danger. And time is running out if he is to wake up to the challenge, and defeat the evil infecting his school before it takes over the world.

The Minions of Midas by Jack London - What happens when a secret society demands your fortune—or sacrifices innocent lives instead? An electrifying tale of power, greed, and morality.
Jack London was an interesting man. He ran for Mayor of Oakland, California twice in 1901 and 1905 as the Socialist candidate and lost both both times garnering less than a thousand votes in those elections.
Did you know that The Minions of Midas was turned into a Netflix series in 2020? The show is set in Madrid, Spain, and while it’s originally in Spanish, it’s also available in English. A story Jack London wrote back in 1901—that was mostly overlooked for nearly 120 years—is now a full-blown miniseries!

Minoru Yamasaki described the feeling he sought to create in his buildings as “serenity, surprise, and delight.” Here, his granddaughter Katie Yamasaki charts his life and work: his childhood in Seattle’s Japanese immigrant community, paying his way through college working in Alaska’s notorious salmon canneries, his success in architectural school, and the transformative structures he imagined and built. A Japanese American man who faced brutal anti-Asian racism in post–World War II America and an outsider to the architectural establishment, he nonetheless left his mark on the world, from the American Midwest to New York City, Asia, and the Middle East. This striking biography renders one artist’s work through the eyes of another, telling the story of a man whose vision, hard work, and humanity led him to the pinnacle of his field.
