Sinopse

Written between one January and the next, A Thaw Foretold is a passionate exploration of themes that are as timeless and recurrent as the seasons. In language that is both precisely vivid and particular, embracing both colloquial directness and formal elegance, the poems confront the elementals of love and loss, mortality and remembrance.

Scott's The Bridal of Triermain is a rhymed, romantic, narrative poem which weaves together elements of popular English legend using dramatic themes. This beautiful poem celebrates the exploits of a knight errant - Sir Roland De Vaux - as he seeks to rescue (and hopefully espouse) a beautiful maiden, Gyneth. Gyneth is the illegitimate daughter of King Arthur: doomed by Merlin 500 years previously to an enchanted sleep inside a magic castle. The enchantment can only be broken by a rescuer both brave and noble enough to overcome the temptations used successively to distract and overcome him, namely: fear, wealth, pleasure and pride.(Introduction by Godsend)

Pearl, Jan and Linda are enjoying a long-awaited break on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, when a surprise visitor turns up. They haven't seen Shelley for years, and their retreat becomes a reunion – and pretty soon, a riot.
But a lot has changed since they were last together and, cut off from the mainland, tensions rise with the tide. As the sky darkens, the island grows restless with echoes of the past. Will the four still be friends when dawn breaks?
Following the smash hits Ladies' Day and Ladies Down Under, Amanda Whittington's Ladies Unleashed is the third play in her Ladies Trilogy. A moving comedy about friendship, growing older and living for today, it was first performed at Hull Truck Theatre in September 2022, directed by Mark Babych.
The Ladies are back, and amateur theatre companies – as well as their audiences – are sure to delight in their riotous exploits.
'A joyous comedy... a story that serves every character with humanity... Whittington has created people who are rich with history and bursting with humour and passion. They're complex, multi-layered, and recognisable... glorious' - The Stage

Poor Choices is a short story about an intelligent man named Dan who works retail. Dan has a lot of talents and a good education, but he is prone to making bad choices that keep him from really having the type of life that he wants. He works at a company called Game Swap, which is a used video game store not unlike ones you see in the mini-malls across America. The story takes real life inspiration from working at a video game retail store and all the annoyances that come from working within that corporate structure. The focal point of the story isn’t retail life itself though, but more the feelings of the main character Dan.
There are many people who can relate to the type of character Dan is. He feels like he can do so much more with his life, but the worries over paying the bills and making sure things stay normal keep him within this box. He is much like many twenty-something’s who are trying to find their place in the world and figure out exactly where they want to end up. Dan wants to answer all the question marks about his future, but will the poor choices he is prone to making keep him from doing so?
Short Story Press publishes short stories written by everyday writers.
