Beschreibung

How far can mental overload take us? Who hasn't felt on the verge of collapse, sadness, or a lack of patience?
These are the questions that inspired the stories in The Invisible Burden: a collection of nineteen stories that explore the emotional weight and psychological overload that each character unknowingly carries. These burdens will lead them to extreme situations such as ridicule, loneliness, madness, or, in some cases, death. These are stories that speak about pain.
With a clear and direct style, Miguel Ángel Rupérez invites us to delve into life situations where harshness, tragedy, and irony play a fundamental role. His stories go straight to the point, without beating around the bush, always leaving room for reflection. It is an ideal book for those who enjoy short but profound reading.
The Invisible Burden will not leave you indifferent. True emotion is never in the words of the stories, but in what they awaken within each reader.

This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in 1934. 'The Valley of the Worm' is a story in the James Allison series and tells the tale of a Texan who recalls his past lives as ancient heroes. Robert Ervin Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. During his youth, his family moved between a variety of Texan boomtowns, and Howard - a bookish and somewhat introverted child - was steeped in the violent myths and legends of the Old South. At fifteen Howard began to read the pulp magazines of the day, and to write more seriously. The December 1922 issue of his high school newspaper featured two of his stories, 'Golden Hope Christmas' and 'West is West'. In 1924 he sold his first piece - a short caveman tale titled 'Spear and Fang' - for $16 to the not-yet-famous Weird Tales magazine. Howard's most famous character, Conan the Cimmerian, was a barbarian-turned-King during the Hyborian Age, a mythical period of some 12,000 years ago. Conan featured in seventeen Weird Tales stories between 1933 and 1936 which is why Howard is now regarded as having spawned the 'sword and sorcery' genre. The Conan stories have since been adapted many times, most famously in the series of films

Main character, Captain gets a letters from his sweetheart, where she refuses to marry him. The reason she gave was the age difference. For such a determined person as Captain it doesn't sound like a sufficient reason. His love, care and high position in society can cover the difference in age. So he rushes to her place hoping to win this battle. The lady meets him with a gentle smile, through she's uncompromising in her decision. Age difference will become a problem in a couple of years and their marriage won't be happy. Courageous Captain calmly accepts this answer and goes back home.
