The “fierce, erotic, haunting, truthful” memoirs of an extraordinary artist, activist, and iconoclast who lit up late-twentieth-century New York (Dennis Cooper). One of the New York Times’ “50 Best Memoirs of the Past 50 Years” David Wojnarowicz’s brief but eventful life was not easy. From a suburban adolescence marked by neglect, drugs, prostitution, and abuse to a squalid life on the streets of New York City, to fame—and infamy—as an activist and controversial visual artist whose work was lambasted in the halls of Congress, all before his early death from AIDS at age thirty-seven, Wojnarowicz seemed to be at war with a homophobic “establishment” and the world itself. Yet what emerged from the darkness was a truly extraordinary artist and human being—an angry young man of remarkable poetic sensibilities who was inordinately sympathetic to those who, like him, lived and struggled outside society’s boundaries.Close to the Knives is his searing yet strangely beautiful account told in a collection of powerful essays. An author whom reviewers have compared to Kerouac and Genet, David Wojnarowicz mesmerizes, horrifies, and delights in equal measure with his unabashed honesty. At once savage and funny, poignant and sexy, compassionate and unforgiving, his words and stories cut like knives, leaving indelible marks on all who read them.

Garrison: Love sucks! There I said it. I've never looked for it, nor do I want it. All it seems to do is cause open wounds. I already suffer from the guilt of a horrific accident. I won't let love suck me down the rabbit hole. But Murphy's Law is a diva out to destroy my life. Someone sees me for more than just a one and done and though I've pushed men away for years, he's refreshing. But remember that diva I told you about, she's sort of a b**** too. Yeah, love more than sucks but since I can't use the words I want, I'll just stick to that because the man I want has a connection with me, no one knows about.Lawson: I met a man. Sure he's a little detached and cynical. Though, try telling my heart he's all wrong for me. I've been over it with this particular traitorous part of my body. And, I do the one thing I never do with my hook-ups. I give him a way to reach me. But it's more—I almost beg him to call me after my next deployment. Oh, yeah, forgot to mention, I'm in the military and am shipping out. I want him to be my welcoming party, when I come home, yet, when I unravel every complicated part of Garrison Fisher, I find more and more I should run from. But I can't. He's broken, but after my time in the military, I'm broken too. Can we fix one another and heal the wounds that may very well tear us apart?Contains mature themes.

In this M/M homage to the classic novel, Valley of the Dolls, Lambda-winning author Ryan Fields introduces us to six gay men searching for love and fame in the celebrity-fueled worlds of Broadway and Hollywood. The wide-eyed lawyer Rush Goodwin abandons his quaint New England life for the bright lights of New York City, where he meets singers/actors Cody and Anderson, and their partners, who are all just as young and innocent as he is. When Rush meets his new boss, handsome lawyer Lance Sharp, it's love at first sight and the beginning of a turbulent affair. As fame and fortune knock on each of their doors, Rush and his friends each learn, in their own different ways, that nothing ever goes according to plan. They each find themselves seeking the comforts of drugs (nicknamed ‘dudes’ to those in the know) to deal with the stress of success, which leads to its own spiral down the proverbial rabbit hole of broken hearts and dreams. But sometimes, we learn from our mistakes, and Rush and Lance find themselves when they let go and follow their hearts.
