  In The Making of White American Identity, Ron Eyerman provides an explanation for how whiteness has become a basis for collective identification and collective action in the United States. Drawing upon his previous work on the formation of African American identity, as well as cultural trauma theory, collective memory, and social movements, he reveals how and under what conditions such a collective identification emerges, as well as how the mobilization of collective action around an ideology of whiteness and white superiority. Eyerman explores how the American identity was, and is still being established, through both historical and more recent events, including the Civil War, the Civil Rights movement, the election of a Black president, the Charlottesville confrontation, and the violent conflict at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He further shows how each event revitalized the trauma narratives stemming from the nation's founding tensions, mobilizing social forces around the idea of white superiority and white consciousness. Tracing the historical contexts and social conditions under which individuals and groups move through this process, the author also looks forward at the prospects of the ideology of white supremacy as a political force in the United States.

  About one hundred years ago, new discoveries involving the nature of fundamental particles challenged some of the laws of classical physics and our understanding of reality. Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein became involved in an argument about the nature of reality, epitomised by Einstein's claim that "God does not play dice with the universe," expressing his scepticism about the probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics and the concept of inherent randomness in the universe. Today the argument has long been settled in Bohr's favour, and quantum theory is firmly established as the most successful theory in the history of science.
  
  At the very core of quantum theory is the wave-particle duality of matter, wherein fundamental particles like electrons and photons can be observed to behave both like particles and also like waves depending on the circumstances. Today there is increasing speculation that all particles and even larger compound objects may also have a quantum wave function.
  
  Photons stand at the edge of this new reality because, unlike electrons, they have no rest mass, and yet they are attracted by the force of gravity. Black holes swallow up anything that comes too close, including photons, leading to the idea that nothing can escape their influence, not even light. However, there is evidence that black holes also radiate energy, producing a form of electromagnetic radiation, photons that energise the continual expansion of our universe.
  
  Adding to their mystique, photons also appear to manipulate time, as evidenced in the classic "double slit" experiment, during which photons appear to show retrograde action, reversing in time to go backwards and change the images formed on a screen. All this and more has led the author to see photons as "the real Time Lords".

  Booker Taliaferro Washington was born in a southern plantation. He was a son of a black slave woman and unknown white man. His mother worked as a cook in a house of plantation owners. In childhood he idn't have a surname as other slaves, but after the American Civil War that set the black slaves free Booker chose the surname of the first American President George Washington.
  Up from Slavery, written in 1901, became some sort of manifesto, the call to fight for the rights and achieve everything by own forces. In this book Booker Washington tells about his life, he describes the fight for the rights and freedoms and abilities of a man that wants to achieve a lot. The name of the book became a slogan for many movements for the rights of black people in the USA.
