Sinopsis

"Disney Princess Effect" explores the widespread influence of Disney Princesses on society, examining how these animated characters have shaped our understanding of femininity, consumer culture, and gender roles. The book delves into the evolution of princess archetypes, Disney's impactful marketing strategies, and the resulting cultural consequences, revealing how these films communicate subtle yet powerful messages about gender, aspiration, and self-worth.

Readers may be intrigued to learn how Disney adapted classic narratives to reflect societal values, while also reinforcing established norms, and how the franchise has significantly contributed to both gender stereotypes and consumerism. The book offers historical context, tracing the origins of fairy tales and the evolution of animation. It then progresses to examining Disney's marketing machine and the cultural impact of the franchise, analyzing its influence on children's socialization, body image, and gender expectations.

By blending film analysis, marketing data, and sociological research, "Disney Princess Effect" offers a critical lens through which to view the seemingly innocent world of Disney, making it valuable for anyone interested in media literacy and the impact of popular culture.

Weaving personal narrative with political analysis, Community as Rebellion offers a meditation on creating liberatory spaces for students and faculty of color within academia. Much like other women scholars of color, Lorgia García Peña has struggled against the colonizing, racializing, classist, and unequal structures that perpetuate systemic violence within universities. Through personal experiences and analytical reflections, the author invites listeners—in particular Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian women—to engage in liberatory practices of boycott, abolition, and radical community-building to combat the academic world's tokenizing and exploitative structures.

García Peña argues that the classroom is key to freedom-making in the university, urging teachers to consider activism and social justice as central to what she calls "teaching in freedom": a progressive form of collective learning that prioritizes the subjugated knowledge, silenced histories, and epistemologies from the Global South and Indigenous, Black, and brown communities. By teaching in and for freedom, we not only acknowledge the harm that the university has inflicted on our persons and our ways of knowing since its inception, but also create alternative ways to be, create, live, and succeed through our work.

The characteristics of school leaders who are appointed merely on the instructions of their superiors differ significantly from those of principals who enter the profession out of a deep sense of calling. Leaders appointed by directive often carry out their responsibilities as an obligation or administrative duty, focusing primarily on compliance and fulfilling external expectations. Their authority is derived from positional power rather than intrinsic motivation. In contrast, school principals who assume their role on the basis of personal calling demonstrate a greater sense of commitment, passion, and responsibility for the growth of both students and teachers. Their leadership is not confined to administrative functions but extends to fostering a vision, building a positive culture, and inspiring others. The difference becomes evident in the way they make decisions, manage challenges, and build relationships within the school community. Ultimately, this divergence can be traced back to their initial motivations: while one group enters education out of necessity or appointment, the other chooses the path because of a genuine dedication to the educational mission. The women in this book remind us that leadership is not about power, it is not about status, it is about service, it is about the courage to balance logic with compassion. Through their vision, education is transformed.

George Stephenson was a British civil and mechanical engineer who lived from June the 9th 1781 to August the 12th 1848. Stephenson, called the "Dad of Railways," was regarded by Victorians as a great example of exertion and a desire to enhance. Samuel Smiles, a self-help supporter, applauded his achievements in particular. The four feet eight +12 inches (1.435 m) basic gauge used by the majority of the world's trains is based upon his chosen rail gauge, at times described as 'Stephenson gauge.'
Rail transport, which was created by Stephenson and was a crucial element of the Industrial Revolution, was just one of the most essential innovative developments of the nineteenth century. The Mobility No. 1 was the first steam engine to transport guests on a public railway, the Stockton and Darlington Train, in 1825. It was built by George and his child Robert's company, Robert Stephenson & Business. The Liverpool and Manchester Train, which opened in 1830, was the world's first public inter-city train path to use engines.
In this book, you will learn more about his inventions and his life.
