Sinopsis

The scholarship of Meredith G. Kline (1922–2007) was characterized by a very high view of Scripture, a strong commitment to a Reformed view of biblical theology (centered on covenant), explication of the coherence of the Old and New Testaments, and, most of all, a desire to focus the attention of both scholars and lay Christians on the centrality of Christ's redemptive work of justifying his people and imbuing them with his perfect righteousness. Kline's writings are often quite creative and full of fresh insights, thoroughly intellectual but also pastoral, and they have provided many with the exciting, energizing feeling that they are reading and understanding the biblical text—and how Scripture in its entirety hangs together—for the first time.

Essential Writings of Meredith G. Kline presents sixteen articles that Meredith G. Kline wrote over a period of forty years. The articles display the unique, creative, and Christocentric way in which Kline interpreted the entire Bible. They cover a range of topics, thereby providing a good overview of Kline's scholarship. Topics include covenant, law, and the state; faith, the gospel, and justification; redemption; and resurrection and the consummation. Pastors and scholars, especially those in the Reformed community, will be delighted by the fresh insights and wisdom, and sometimes paradigm-changing perspectives, found in the pages of this book.

Meredith G. Kline (1922–2007) was a professor of Old Testament for fifty-five years, teaching at four seminaries: Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary in California. He was also an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

    Friendship with Christ - A...

Friendship has the capacity to elevate our lives and make us better people. It plays an important role in our moral development, spiritual growth, and personal flourishing. This is true of friendship between humans, and it is also true of friendship with God in Christ. What did friendship with Christ mean for Christians in ages past, and what can it mean for us today?

In Friendship with Christ, John Vissers offers a robust biblical, historical, and theological study of friendship with God in Christ. Rooted in the "friendship teaching" of John 15, this book draws on the threefold office of Christ as prophet, priest, and king to develop a theology of divine friendship against the backdrop of the biblical record and historical tradition. Friendship with Christ, Vissers argues, is a theological truth and experience that continues to provide consolation and hope in a secular age and a suffering world.

With a foreword by Hans Boersma, this book shows that friendship with Christ has been central to the experience of the providential love of God throughout the church's history and that it still matters today. Friendship with Christ will appeal to professors and students of theology, Christology, and spiritual formation, as well as to pastors and church leaders.

Few things frightened conservative white Protestant parents of the 1950s and the 1960s more than thought of their children falling prey to the "menace to Christendom" known as rock and roll. The raucous sounds of Elvis Presley and Little Richard seemed tailor-made to destroy the faith of their young and, in the process, undermine the moral foundations of the United States. Parents and pastors launched a crusade against rock music, but they were fighting an uphill battle.

Salvation came in a most unlikely form. When a revival swept through counterculture hippie communities of the West Coast in the 1960s and 1970s a new alternative emerged. Known as the Jesus Movement—and its members, more colloquially, as "Jesus freaks"—the revival was short-lived. But by combining the rock and folk music of the counterculture with religious ideas and aims of conservative white evangelicals, Jesus freaks and evangelical media moguls gave birth to an entire genre known as Contemporary Christian Music (CCM).

In this book, Leah Payne traces the history and trajectory of CCM in America and, in the process, demonstrates how the industry, its artists, and its fans shaped—and continue to shape—conservative, (mostly) white, evangelical Protestantism.

For many years, I have wanted to write a book that focuses on the main theme in the Bible, which is the story of the whole redemptive plan of God in history that includes us. There are many awesome things in the Bible, and they are all related, either directly or indirectly, to that redemptive theme, but I wanted to strip it right down and focus on that central theme in a simple, yet powerful way that connected all of the main dots. My ultimate goal would be that when someone is finished reading this book they could say, “I know what the Bible is about. I know what God has done for me, and what His plan is for me.” And so, here it is."
    ~Pastor Doug Bergsma
Join Pastor Doug as he addresses and answers tough questions that each of us have asked at some point. Questions like:If God knows everything, including the future and what would happen, why would He allow such terrible things to occur? Why did God have to give His only Son to die a cruel death? (Couldn’t He have fixed things some other way)?If Satan is the primary enemy of all that is good, why doesn’t God just lock him up?Where do I fit into the picture? What does the future hold for me?
These answers are not found through casual observation or in everyday events; they are part of The Big Story that truly explains it all.
