Until that time this form of expression, created by untrained artists and characterised by spontaneity and simplicity, enjoyed little recognition from professional artists and art critics. Influenced by primitive arts, naive painting is distinguished by the fluidity of its lines, vivacity, and joyful colours, as well as by its rather clean-cut, simple shapes. Naive art is represented by such artists as Henri Rousseau, Séraphine de Senlis, André Bauchant, and Camille Bombois. This movement has also found adherents abroad, including such prominent artists as Joan Miró, Guido Vedovato, Niko Pirosmani, and Ivan Generalic.

  Gene Eliza Tierney (November 19, 1920 - November 6, 1991), born in New York City, was an American stage and film actress. Acclaimed for her great beauty, Tierney was a prominent leading lady during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She starred in Otto Preminger's Laura (1944), a film noir classic, and in John M. Stahl's Leave Her to Heaven (1945), which earned Tierney a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Darryl F. Zanuck, co-founder of 20th Century Fox, said Tierney was "unquestionably, the most beautiful woman in movie history." The following recording is from a 1979 television interview.

  The Global Vipassana Pagoda in Mumbai was built to mark the birth centenary year of Sayagyi U Ba Khin, the Burmese Dhamma teacher of S.N. Goenka. The monument is built in the Myanmar style of the Shwedagon pagoda, as a token of gratitude to that country where the essence of the Buddha’s teachings was maintained in its pristine purity, and from where it is now spreading throughout India, and via India to the rest of the world. Mr. S.N. Goenka became the vehicle to make this happen and was the inspiring guide for every important aspect of this building project. Tremendous volition and effort went into the building of this staggering monument, and it is interesting and educative to explore the journey. Mr. Bikram Dandiya has beautifully chronicled some of these experiences in this booklet, The Jewel in Mumbai, the story of the making of the crystal bud atop the Global Vipassana Pagoda.
