Summary

Torah presents the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, also known as Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses. The Torah starts from the beginning of God's creating the world, through the beginnings of the people of Israel, their descent into Egypt, and the giving of the Torah at biblical Mount Sinai. It ends with the death of Moses, just before the people of Israel cross to the promised land of Canaan. Interspersed in the narrative are the specific teachings given explicitly or implicitly embedded in the narrative. In Hebrew, the five books of the Torah are identified by the incipits in each book; and the common English names for the books are derived from the Greek Septuagint and reflect the essential theme of each book:
Bəreshit —Genesis, meaning "Creation"
Shəmot —Exodus, meaning "Exit"
Vayikra —Leviticus, meaning "Relating to the Levites"
Bəmidbar —Numbers
Dəvarim —Deuteronomy, meaning "Second-Law"
Available since: 03/01/2021.
Print length: 405 pages.

From his time at Creem Magazine in the 1970s and '80s to the formation of the Angry Samoans in Los Angeles, and all the travels, trials, and tribulations that occurred after, Turner takes us through a wild ride of stories he's heard, stories he's lived, and some he may or may not have made up.Hallucinations from Hell is an onslaught of a book that will appeal to any listener who loves a good story.

Wild Bill Hickok was a man of strong character - a colorful and imposing personality with a single-mindedness that made him stand out and attract much attention. Not one of his friends or peers considered him in a bad light, as this quote from his friend Captain Jack Crawford states:“…Wild Bill had his faults, grievous ones, perhaps… He would get drunk, gamble, and indulge in the general licentiousness characteristic of the border in the early days, yet even when full of the vile libel of the name of whiskey which was dealt over the bars at exorbitant prices, he was gentle as a child, unless aroused to anger by intended insults. He was loyal in his friendship, generous to a fault, and invariably espoused the cause of the weaker against the stronger one in a quarrel.”A striking and handsome figure, soft-spoken and courteous by nature, easy-going and friendly, he would go out of his way to help a friend in need. But, when roused to anger, and his patience tested, he was a man to be feared, who would meet his foes with overwhelming force, skill and confidence. A fearless and ruthless gunfighter.Wild Bill - The Story of James Butler Hickok is a true story of the man, the lawman and the fearless gunfighter who made his inevitable and famous mark in the Old West, and passed into legend.

Uprooting ourselves and putting down roots elsewhere has become second nature. Americans are among the most mobile people on the planet, moving house an average of nine times in adulthood. Mobile Home explores one family's extreme and often international version of this common experience. Inspired by Megan Harlan's globe-wandering childhood—during which she lived in seventeen homes across four continents, ranging in location from the Alaskan tundra to a Colombian jungle, a posh flat in London to a doublewide trailer near the Arabian Gulf—Mobile Home maps the emotional structures and metaphysical geographies of home.In ten interconnected essays, Harlan examines cultural histories that include Bedouin nomadic traditions and modern life in wheeled mobile homes, the psychology of motels and suburban tract housing, and the lived meanings within the built landscapes of Manhattan, Stonehenge, and the Winchester Mystery House. More personally, she traces the family histories that drove her parents to seek so many new horizons—and how those places shaped her upbringing. Her memoir in essays skillfully explores the flexible, continually inventive natures of place, family, and home.
