Sinopsis

As someone who has been advising clients in the financial services industry since 1999, Matthew Johnson knows what he is talking about. For over two decades, he has practiced the discipline of putting his clients first—a belief he inherited from his father who was also a financial advisor. Avoiding the cliches found in many financial planning books, Johnson cuts to the chase and offers readers a clear plan of action.Knowing how challenging the prospect of retirement can be for many individuals, Johnson takes on the role of a personal advisor and walks readers through several practical ways they can maximize their retirement savings. The key to retirement investing, according to Johnson, is to switch from growth-oriented to income-oriented investment strategies.

The Sun, as our nearest star, is of enormous importance for life on Earth, providing the warm radiation and light which allowed complex life to evolve. The Sun plays a key role in influencing our climate, while solar storms and high-energy events can threaten our communication infrastructure and satellites.
This Very Short Introduction explores what we know about the Sun—its physics, its structure, origins, and future evolution. Philip Judge explains some of the remaining puzzles about the Sun that still confound us, using elementary physics and mathematical concepts. Why does the Sun form spots? Why does it flare? As he shows, these and other nagging difficulties relate to the Sun's continually variable magnetism, which converts an otherwise dull star into a machine for flooding interplanetary space with variable radiation, high-energy particles, and magnetic ejections. Throughout, Judge highlights the many reasons that the Sun is important and why scientists engage in solar research.

Coronavirus disease is a virus that is part of a large family of viruses called coronaviruses (CoV). It has been known to cause common respiratory infections ranging from common diseases like the common cold to more critical illnesses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). However, the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain of the coronaviruses that was discovered in 2019 that has never been previously identified in humans.
This is a revised edition of the 2020 original version that discussed how dangerous the virus is, how it all started, the causes, the diagnosis and prevention. This updated version discusses the international response, the COVID-19 mortality, the COVID-19 vaccine and contains lots of updated data, facts and eliminates that which is outdated as of February 2021.

Fire is fascinating isn’t it? We love to watch fires, whether in a campfire, one in a backyard hearth, and in a house fireplace. We love to cook in it, use it to purify things, or even produce weapons.
Building fires is also a lot of fun. What a rush to start a fire from sticks and fire starters that you put together then watch it burn.  And what about cooking “s’mores” as a dessert with your friends of family? There are also lots of methods to start a fire.
Fires also protect us from wild animals. Even the largest predator doesn’t want to go near a fire. They are scared of it—and for good reason.
There are also many legends of fire beings from the fire breathing dragon to the Phoenix which burns to death and is reborn out of the ashes.
Fires have also destroyed many cities in history as well as wild fires which can destroy huge areas of land and the properties on it. These fires led to the development of fire departments.
Cooking was first done on fires and is still done on many fires today. Thousands of years of recipes were all developed over open fires.
There is also poetry written about fire. I’ve included some near the end of the book.
Man’s climb from animals to modern humans is closely related to the usage of fire. We would probably not have survived through history without the command of fire.

Our Common Future, also known as The Brundtland Report, is a joint work produced in 1987 by a United Nations commission headed by former Norwegian prime minister, Gro Brundtland. Intended to respond to a growing number of environmental concerns faced by the global community, it recognized the need for long-term strategies to manage natural resources. It says we must act collaboratively to protect the environment, while at the same time stimulating economic and social development. These goals are summarized as “sustainable development,” defined in the report as humanity’s ability “to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The report argues that human development and the environment are deeply linked and have to be looked at together. This requires international collaboration and greater awareness among the general public. By 1989, half a million copies had been sold.
