An intriguing, firsthand look at what it was like to ascend the storied Colorado mountain and experience its allure in the early days of the Old West. Magnificent Pikes Peak rises dramatically from the Colorado prairie to a height of 14,114 feet above sea level. Visible for one hundred miles around, the granite giant’s magnetic appeal compelled rugged mountaineers more than a century ago to risk loose saddles, electrical storms and even murder on treacherous expeditions to the summit. First known as Long Mountain by the Indigenous peoples who sojourned at its hot springs, Pikes Peak was a full-fledged tourist destination by the 1870s. Eager men and women ventured up and down by foot, horse, burro, stagecoach, rail and bicycle. Colorado Mountain Club historian Woody Smith captures the news of the era to recount the thrill of pioneer days on America’s most famous mountain.

WTF is "Running Harmony", and who the hell is this "Harmony" guy anyway? Running Harmony is the art of running hard, sitting soft, and eating kind. It's also the name of Ray Harmony's running column in Vegan Health & Fitness magazine. This book is the first volume in the series, and is a collection of all Ray's writing on running from 2015 to 2016. Ray Harmony is a British African based in Canada via the USA, and has been Vegan Straight Edge for over 10 years. He is a full-time musician and author, and a part-time runner, who recently completed a one-year 5K-a-day running streak. Ray is a Vibram ambassador and runs exclusively in FiveFingers. His favourite distance is 5K, with a current PR of 18:41. He also has a handful of running medals, but he doesn't like showing off so he keeps them hidden in the zipped pocket of his laptop bag, mainly as an occasional reminder to himself that sometimes he can run pretty fast. Ray Harmony has made music with Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and many more. Ray's running song “Two Runs Make a Right” is available for free download from his website: RunningHarmony.com

"If exercise is medicine – and it is – Ray Harmony is Gregory House by way of Patch Adams. A lively kick in the butt for lapsed gym dogs and a hymn to the awesome power of commitment." —BRUCE GRIERSON, author of What Makes Olga Run?

“Ray submitted an excerpt from this book for his column in Vegan Health & Fitness magazine. I was the lucky first one to read it, and immediately insisted on reading most of it aloud to the rest of the staff. We all agreed that it was probably the best thing that has ever been published in VHF. Not only is it extremely eloquent and well-written, but the message comes from the heart and is very touching and inspirational. We can all relate to the emotions Ray experienced, and his journey is a joy to experience with him. I highly recommend this book. I know it is going to make a real difference in the lives of those who read it.” —BRENDA CAREY, editor of Vegan Health & Fitness magazine

A “hilarious” look back at the worst baseball team in history—the 1962 Mets—by the New York Times–bestselling author (Newark Star-Ledger).   Five years after the Dodgers and Giants fled New York for California, the city’s National League fans were offered salvation in the shape of the New York Mets: an expansion team who, in the spring of 1962, attempted to play something resembling the sport of baseball.  Helmed by the sagacious Casey Stengel and staffed by the league’s detritus, the new Mets played 162 games and lost 120 of them, making them statistically the worst team in the sport’s modern history. It’s possible they were even worse than that. Starring such legends as Marvin Throneberry—a first baseman so inept that his nickname had to be “Marvelous”—the Mets lost with swashbuckling panache. In an era when the fun seemed to have gone out of sports, the Mets came to life in a blaze of delightful, awe-inspiring ineptitude. They may have been losers, but a team this awful deserves to be remembered as legends. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Jimmy Breslin including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

The authors of Run Like a Mother share a collection of inspiring and insightful stories from women who discovered their own power through running. Every mother runner has a tale to tell. A story about how she discovered the fierce and confident athlete inside her. Maybe it’s about setting a seemingly impossible goal—and then exceeding it. Maybe it’s about finding friends who are also allies, cheerleaders, and reality checks. Or maybe it's just a simple story of starting the day off with an endorphin rush. In Mother Runners, elite runners Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea share not only their own stories of personal triumph on the pavement but also inspiring stories from the mother runner community. Through the common theme of running, these women explore issues from losing weight and gaining confidence to finding yourself, connecting with friends, setting goals, dealing with disappointment, and building a better you. I Dream in Blue is television producer Roger Director's up close and personal chronicle of the 2006-2007 seasons spent with Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress, and the rest of the New York Giants, from the first snap of summer camp to the final touchdown of a tumultuous, heart-stopping journey.Throughout it all, Director's got only one end in mind: the Super Bowl. He guts it out with Big Blue, refusing to let anything sideline him—not his fumble-prone television career, not even the strain of occasionally having to act like a responsible husband and father. Along the way, he tells the story of this great sports dynasty's origins and traces its rise to become the heartbeat of New York City and, finally, the world-shocking, Patriots-beating king of pro football. Director was there in Phoenix with his Big Blue heroes as they pulled off the greatest upset in Super Bowl history. In this edition, featuring brand-new chapters that take Giants fans along for the ultimate joy ride, Director continues to dream in blue—and this time watches his dream come true.
