Sinopsis

Climbing has become a mainstream sport with more participants than skiing or snowboarding and, among the different types of climbing, gym climbing is the most popular. Where gyms were once a training ground for rock and alpine climbers, many participants now regularly climb indoors with no plans beyond tackling the ever-changing routes of their neighborhood hangout. When Mountaineers Books published the first edition of this title in 2004 there were approximately 250 climbing gyms in the United States. Today there are more than 650.
In this completely revised second edition, author Matt Burbach focuses his instruction on climbers who want to excel on indoor routes and problems. The new edition includes:

Step-by-step training for beginners
Strategies for progressing to dynamic movements to top out on ever more difficult new-school routes and problems
Both bouldering and top-roping instruction
Physical conditioning, mental training, and kinesiological assessment and theory
The latest belay and safety techniques
Explanation of equipment, which is safer, lighter, and more comfortable than ever
This edition also includes entirely new photos (now in color), with professional climbers Emily Harrington and Matt Segal demonstrating the moves and gym climbing techniques throughout the book.
Disponible desde: 10/08/2018.

J-Rod moves like a small tank on the court, his face mean, staring down his opponents. "I play just like my father," he says. "Before my father died, he was a problem on the court. I'm a problem." Playing basketball for him fuses past and present, conjuring his father's memory into a force that opponents can feel in each bone-snapping drive to the basket. On the street, every ballplayer has a story. Onaje X. O. Woodbine, a former streetball player who became an all-star Ivy Leaguer, brings the sights and sounds, hopes and dreams of street basketball to life. He shows that big games have a trickster figure and a master of black talk whose commentary interprets the game for audiences. The beats of hip-hop and reggae make up the soundtrack, and the ballplayers are half-men, half-heroes, defying the ghetto's limitations with their flights to the basket.Basketball is popular among young black American men but not because, as many claim, they are "pushed by poverty" or "pulled" by white institutions to play it. Black men choose to participate in basketball because of the transcendent experience of the game. Through interviews with and observations of urban basketball players, Onaje X. O. Woodbine composes a rare portrait of a passionate, committed, and resilient group of athletes who use the court to mine what urban life cannot corrupt. If people turn to religion to reimagine their place in the world, then black streetball players are indeed the hierophants of the asphalt.

Lost Cricket Stickers brings you the inside story of the 1983 cricket season, locating lost heroes and discovering their journeys with the help of a Panini sticker album.
1983 was a pivotal year for cricket. India won the World Cup and England lost to New Zealand at home, both for the first time. There was a 35-minute century and a 14 all out. Yorkshire came bottom of the Championship (and won the John Player League), while South Africa tour rebels, banned from playing for England, dominated the county game. Thatcher won a landslide election victory post-Falklands.
This is a warm, funny and insightful tale of tracking down a fondly remembered player from each county, each with his unique take on then and now. The book is based on the only cricket sticker album of the era.
Four decades on, the county game has transformed. The Hundred and video analysis have replaced the John Player League and pub sessions after a long day in the field. But is that for better or worse?

Disabled as a result of childhood meningitis, Paul Hodgson has written this autobiography in order to challenge the stereotype of the wheelchair-bound victim.
Far from being a passive spectator, we learn how Paul struggled to care for his mother through several strokes and Alzheimer's disease and of the rift this caused within his family. He also speaks of the Community Care system, his experiences of education and employment, and the loyalty of his friends.
This is his account of life as a fan of Darlington Football Club which reveals another side to Paul's nature, with its fascinating compendium of mishaps and drink-fueled escapades, which are invariably laced with his own brand of black humour.
Give Them Wings is a graphic story of one man's fortitude in the face of severe odds, it offers a unique insight into what it means to be disabled in modern society.
The book ties in with a blockbuster film of his life, Give Them Wings, directed by Sean Cronin and due to be released in summer 2021. The film won the "Best Feature" at The London Independent Film Festival and stars Daniel Watson (as Paul) together with Toyah Wilcox.
