Sinopsis

This work explains itself and is given to the world because it is needed. Tired of the obtuseness of Church and State; indignant at the injustice of both towards woman; at the wrongs inflicted upon one-half of humanity by the other half in the name of religion; finding appeal and argument alike met by the assertion that God designed the subjection of woman, and yet that her position had been higher under Christianity than ever before: Continually hearing these statements, and knowing them to be false, I refuted them in a slight resume of the subject at the annual convention of the National Woman Suffrage Association, Washington, D.C., 1878. A wish to see that speech in print, having been expressed, it was allowed to appear in The National Citizen, a woman suffrage paper I then edited, and shortly afterwards in "The History of Woman Suffrage," of which I was also an editor. The kindly reception given both in the United States and Europe to that meager chapter of forty pages confirmed my purpose of a fuller presentation of the subject in book form, and it now appears, the result of twenty years investigation, in a volume of over five hundred and fifty pages. Matilda Electa Joslyn Gage (1826-1898) was a 19th-century women's suffragist, a Native American rights activist, an abolitionist, a freethinker, and a prolific author, who was "born with a hatred of oppression."

As humans, our thought processes, actions and reactions, outcomes and the psychological effect of our fear experiences influence our beliefs, lifestyle and other factors. These life changing experiences and factors determine our behaviour in communication and interaction with our environment, whether logical or illogical.
As we grow, learn and develop our own environment, we choose to avoid, confront, ignore or learn to live with our fears. The most intriguing part of it is that we voluntarily believe that our fear is a major problem and a hindrance to us making our goals attainable.
We become completely powerful when we are able to put our fear reactions in context, reflect on our reactions which are birthed from situations of perceived fear and dissect the often unrecognised counter-reactions that make our situation affect our actions.

This book introduces readers to the genre of comedy, both on the stage and on the screen. It chronicles the history of comedy, starting with Ancient Greece, before summarising key chapters in Anglophone literary history, such as Shakespearean comedy, Restoration comedy, and Theatre of the Absurd. The book features an overview of key comic techniques (including slapstick, puns, and wit), as well as concise summaries of major theoretical debates (including the superiority theory and the Freudian account of laughter). The book works with many examples from the history of Anglophone comedy, including Oscar Wilde, Monty Python, and classic sitcoms. It addresses current research into cringe humour and the controversial topic of diversity in the field of comedy, and it connects classical tropes of comedy (like the fool or the marriage plot) to present-day examples. The book thus serves as an up-to-date study guide for everyone interested in comedy and its various subgenres.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized and effective approach to mental health treatment that focuses on the powerful connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The premise behind CBT is simple: our thoughts shape how we feel, and how we feel influences how we behave. In turn, our behaviors can either reinforce or challenge our thought patterns. By learning to identify, challenge, and reframe negative or distorted thoughts, CBT offers a roadmap to breaking unhealthy cycles and fostering positive change.
The key to lasting improvement in mental health often lies in addressing the underlying thought patterns that influence our emotional states. Our minds can become entrenched in negative thinking habits, which can lead to persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress. These patterns can often seem automatic or out of our control, but through CBT, we gain the tools to not only understand but actively change how we think.
The first step in this process is understanding the role of thought patterns in mental health. We all experience a wide range of thoughts throughout the day, some positive and others negative. While we may not always be able to control what thoughts arise, we can gain control over how we respond to them. Negative thoughts such as self-doubt, catastrophizing, and overgeneralizing can trigger emotional distress, which in turn influences our behaviors. If left unaddressed, these cycles can become entrenched, affecting our overall well-being and quality of life.
