Sinopse

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by Mary Shelley. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in France. A common misconception in modern society is to refer to the monster itself as "Frankenstein", but in the novel the monster is identified via words such as "monster", "fiend", "wretch", "vile insect", "daemon", and "it"; Shelley herself called it "Adam".

The Brotherhood of the Seven Kings (1899) is a collection of connected thriller stories by L. T. Meade and Robert Eustace. Madame Koluchy is the head of a secret society. Why is it secret? Is the leader a master criminal? Excerpt from the book: "THAT a secret society could ever have existed in the London of our day may seem impossible. Such a society, however, not only did exist, but through the instrumentality of a woman of unparalleled capacity and genius, obtained a firm footing. A century ago the Brotherhood of the Seven Kings was a name hardly whispered without horror and fear in Italy, and now, by the fascinations and influence of one woman, it began to accomplish fresh deeds of unparalleled daring and subtlety in London. By the wide extent of its scientific resources, and the impregnable secrecy of its organizations, it threatened to become, a formidable menace to society, as well as a source of serious anxiety to the authorities of the law."

From a contemporary master of the short story: a dazzling new collection—his first in fifteen years—that explores the unpredictable and mysterious in seemingly ordinary experience. These interrelated stories are arranged in two sections, one devoted to virtues ("Bravery," "Loyalty," "Chastity," "Charity," and "Forbearance") and the other to vices ("Lust," "Sloth," "Avarice," "Gluttony," and "Vanity"). They are cast with characters who appear and reappear throughout the collection, their actions equally divided between the praiseworthy and the loathsome. They take place in settings as various as Tuscany, San Francisco, Ethiopia, and New York, but their central stage is the North Loop of Minneapolis, alongside the Mississippi River, which flows through most of the tales. Each story has at its center a request or a demand, but each one plays out differently: in a hit-and-run, an assault or murder, a rescue, a startling love affair, or, of all things, a gesture of kindness and charity. Altogether incomparably crafted, consistently surprising, remarkably beautiful stories. From the Hardcover edition.

WHEN FACED WITH THE MONSTER OF VENGEANCE, YOU HAVE TO ASK: WHOSE BLOOD WILL PAINT THE WHITE OF THE WOODS?
It was supposed to be a cozy winter in their new cabin, but it started with a cantankerous silvertip grizzly wreaking havoc on everything. That would prove to be the least of their problems in the coming winter…
After a trading foray to visit their neighbors, the Salish, two days north, everything seemed to get turned upside down. They found themselves in contested territory with a band of honor seeking young bucks from the Siksika band that sought to gain scalps and captives from their sworn enemies, the Salish. And that wasn’t enough to upset their peaceful plans, but when Gabe, or Spirit Bear, found out the Blackfoot had stolen the mares bred by his stallion and were carrying foals that belonged to him, it became personal.
“Excitement, daring hardship, combined with a Christian edge, makes this a very captivating, page-turning story.”
