Sinopsis

Delve into the works and mystery of an LGBTQ+ author whom historians are still trying to unravel over 200 years later. Previously known only as a quiet but intelligent wallflower friend of renowned author Mary Shelley, Mary Diana Dods is far from an ordinary Eighteenth-century daughter of an Earl. Throughout their life, they lived under three identities. First was their birth name, Mary Diana Dods. Due to the negative opinions of women authors during this time, they adopted the pseudonym, David Lyndsay, which was the pen name under which they published much of their work. Most intriguing of all, they fully transitioned to an additional male identity of scholar and diplomat, Walter Sholto Douglas, for the latter part of their personal life. Until Mary Shelley expert Betty T. Bennett’s research in 1991, it was believed that Dods, Lyndsay, and Sholto Douglas were all separate individuals. By studying a series of letters sent to Shelley, Bennett discovered that all correspondents were in fact the same person. Since this research, historians have been working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the life of this groundbreaking author whom society has forgotten.

Being acknowledged for what you do is always very welcome. When it comes to Oscar’s, Emmy’s, Pulitzer’s and Nobel’s it’s also international news and for many, the pinnacle of their career.

The Nobel Prize is much lauded and very difficult to secure. In this volume we list ten of its winners over the decades who were famed for their literature. The prize is given with an emphasis on its contribution to literature and its influence in the world and for the individual, more usually, for the body of work created.

So, whilst none of the stories in this volume were winners in their own right, their authors most certainly were. They perfectly illustrate both the nature and mastery of the writing and the power and the purpose set within its storied prose.

Title: The Music of Erich Zann
    Author: H. P. Lovecraft
    Narrator: Jonathan Dunne
    Original Publication: 1922
    Public Domain: Yes
Series Placement: Number 29 in the Timeless Terrors series
    Description:
The Music of Erich Zann by H. P. Lovecraft is a haunting exploration of madness, sound, and the fragile barrier between worlds. In a shadowed quarter of an ancient city, a student discovers a reclusive musician whose eerie, otherworldly compositions seem to keep at bay horrors unseen. What begins as fascination soon descends into terror, as the power behind Zann’s music and the darkness beyond his window are revealed.
Through Lovecraft’s vivid and claustrophobic imagery, this tale captures the essence of his cosmic philosophy — that there are realms of existence beyond human perception, and that art itself can be both a shield and a summons. The result is one of Lovecraft’s most atmospheric and psychologically intense stories.
Narrated by Amazon bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance channels the story’s spectral tone and mounting dread — a symphony of terror rendered in voice. While the text is in the public domain, this narration is an original performance and copyright © 2025 Jonathan Dunne.
Part of Timeless Terrors, a series devoted to resurrecting the great works of Gothic and cosmic horror, The Music of Erich Zann resonates as a chilling hymn to the unknowable — where melody becomes madness, and silence is more dreadful than sound.
Prepare for a tale of haunting music, unseen worlds, and a final note that echoes beyond the limits of sanity.

Six has always been a number we group things around – Six of the best, six of one half a dozen of another, six feet under, six pack, six degrees of separation and a sixth sense are but a few of the ways we use this number.

Such is its popularity that we thought it is also a very good way of challenging and investigating an author’s work to give width, brevity, humour and depth across six of their very best.

In this series we gather together authors whose short stories both rivet the attention and inspire the imagination to visit their gems in a series of six, to roam across an author’s legacy in a few short hours and gain a greater understanding of their writing and, of course, to be lavishly entertained by their ideas, their narrative and their way with words.

These stories can be surprising and sometimes at a tangent to what we expected, but each is fully formed and a marvellous adventure into the world and words of a literary master.
