In Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right, Goldberg speaks for the millions of Americans who are saying: Enough! Enough of lunatics like Rosie O'Donnell who think ""Radical Christianity"" is ""as big a threat to America as Radical Islam."" Enough of the hyperbolic liberal rhetoric comparing Bush to Hitler and Abu Ghraib to a Saddam Hussein torture chamber. And please, enough of the military-hating crazies who run San Francisco!
But Goldberg has also had it with hypocritical Republicans who say they're for small government but then spend our hard-earned tax money like Imelda Marcos in a shoe store. He's also had it with weak and timid Republicans who won't stand up and fight against racial preferences, too afraid that the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world will call them bigots. In plain English, he's had it with Republicans who are afraid to be conservative! The 2006 election was a wake-up call, he warns, and if the wimps on the Right fail to regain their courage, recover their principles, and reclaim their sense of fiscal responsibility, the crazies on the Left just might win the White House in 2008.

The human brain—the complex organ responsible for our thoughts, feelings, and actions—has long been misunderstood. Dr. Drew Ramsey argues that to heal our brains, we must start considering conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD and addiction—and the patients living with them—more holistically.
Healing the Modern Brain offers a new approach to revitalizing and protecting mental health and achieving Mental Fitness. Simply defined, Mental Fitness is the knowledge, patterns, habits, and skills that culminate in a more mentally healthy life: an approach to living that takes into consideration the unrealistic demands of modern living, time, choice, genetics, lifestyle, diet, habits, chemistry, movement, rest, and mindset. It is a process that will put your brain in a perpetual state of self-repair and evolution, and ensure it has the support it needs to overcome daily stress, decision-fatigue, and uncertainty.
Clear and straightforward, Healing the Modern Brain provides the knowledge and tools needed to nurture Mental Fitness—bringing together the latest scientific research with results from Dr. Ramsey’s clinical practice to show us how we can put ourselves on the road to healing anxiety and depression, and better care for our miraculous, modern brains.

Obedience - The Willing Follow -...

Obedience, at its core, is the act of aligning one’s actions with a higher authority or divine purpose. It is not merely the submission to rules or commands, but a conscious choice to follow the guidance of a force greater than oneself. In the context of spiritual growth, obedience is deeply intertwined with faith, trust, and surrender. It requires an individual to recognize that there is wisdom beyond their understanding and that, by following divine guidance, they are led to a path of fulfillment and purpose.
The true essence of obedience goes beyond blind submission. It is an active decision to place one’s will in alignment with divine will, acknowledging that this alignment leads to a more harmonious and meaningful existence. It calls for humility, as one must be willing to accept that their personal desires, while valid, may not always align with the greater plan. This humility allows individuals to move away from a sense of ego-driven control and step into a flow where they are led by wisdom that is both timeless and profound.
Faith is a foundational element of obedience. When one trusts in a higher purpose, they are more likely to act in accordance with divine will, even when the path ahead is unclear or difficult. This trust creates a foundation for obedience that is not rooted in fear or obligation but in the understanding that divine guidance is always for the highest good, even if it does not immediately make sense to the individual.

During one of the most turbulent periods in the history of Rome, men like Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, and Octavian participated in two civil wars that would spell the end of the Roman Republic and determine who would become the Roman emperor. In the middle of it all was history’s most famous woman, the Egyptian pharaoh Cleopatra (69-30 B.C.), who famously seduced both Caesar and Antony and thereby positioned herself as one of the most influential people in a world of powerful men. Cleopatra was a legendary figure even to contemporary Romans and the ancient world, as Plutarch’s quote suggests, and she was a controversial figure who was equally reviled and praised through the years, depicted as a benevolent ruler and an evil seductress, sometimes at the same time.
One of the reasons Hadrian's Wall existed was to protect against enemies, and given what happened in the mid-1st century CE, the Romans’ fears was understandable. Indeed, Londinium had become the largest city in Britannia shortly before being burned down in a native revolt led by an infamous Celtic Iceni queen named Boudica. With a name meaning “Victory,” Boudica was a charismatic woman who commanded nearly 100,000 Celts and led them on a campaign to expel the Roman overlords from Britain around the year 61 CE. Often called the “Celtic Queen,” she wore a warrior’s necklace around her delicate neck and rode upon a sturdy steed.
One of the most significant women in late antiquity was Zenobia, who for just a few short years in the late 3rd century CE ruled the wealthy merchant city of Palmyra. During her time as ruler, Zenobia extended Palmyra’s boundaries from its very circumscribed location in the Syrian desert to that of a full-fledged empire that included most of the Levant, Egypt, and part of Anatolia. Despite living in a man’s world, Zenobia was able to come to power and eventually challenge the Roman Emperor Aurelian (r. 270-275).

    The Invention of Scarcity -...

With the publication of Essay on the Principle of Population and its projection of food shortages in the face of ballooning populations, British theorist Thomas Robert Malthus secured a leading role in modern political and economic thought. In this startling new interpretation, Deborah Valenze reveals how canonical readings of Malthus fail to acknowledge his narrow understanding of what constitutes food production.

Valenze returns to the eighteenth-century contexts that generated his arguments, showing how Malthus mobilized a redemptive narrative of British historical development and dismissed the ways that people adapted to the challenges of subsistence needs. She uses history, anthropology, and food studies to redirect our attention to the margins of Malthus's essay, where activities such as hunting and gathering were rendered extraneous. She demonstrates how Malthus's omissions and his subsequent canonization provided a rationale for colonial imposition of British agricultural models, regardless of environmental diversity.

By broadening our conception of human livelihoods, Valenze suggests pathways to resistance against the hegemony of Malthusian political economy. She invites us to imagine a world where monoculture is in retreat and the margins are recentered as spaces of experimentation, nimbleness, and human flourishing.
