Sinopsis

The true crime story of the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a Missouri teen and her family’s journey to justice. In the early hours of March 22, 1989, two friends—career criminals with violent felony convictions—drove around the eastern Kansas City area in a stolen car committing a series of crimes. The weather was mild for late March in Kansas City; the sky was clear, and there was the pale remnant of a Full Moon that bore the dubious name of Death Moon, the last full moon of winter. A little before 7 a.m., fifteen-year-old Ann Harrison walked to the end of her driveway on Kansas City’s east side to wait for the bus to take her to Raytown South High School. Ten minutes later, she disappeared but no one saw what happened. As if waiting for her return, her belongings were still stacked carefully by the side of the road.By the Side of the Road is the true crime story of the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Ann Harrison and the long journey forced upon her family who had to wait nearly three decades to see her killers brought to final justice.

'A riveting read ... a dark story of murder and deceit with verve and insight' John Woolf, author of The Wonders

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF A 19TH-CENTURY CIRCUS LEGEND
On 28 November 1911 a retired showman died violently at his home in North London. Known to the world as Lord George Sanger, he was once the biggest name in show business, and was venerated as a national institution.

The death of Britain's wealthiest showman read like a popular crime thriller: a merciless killer; a famous victim; sensational media headlines; a desperate manhunt laced with police incompetencies and a dramatic denouement few could have anticipated. But for over a century, questions have persisted about the murder.

Weaving in the story of George's rise to fame and the history of Britain's entertainment industry, The Killing of Lord George uses previously unpublished archive material to reconstruct the events leading up to the death and reveal the true story behind the brutal crime that shocked Edwardian England.

When Gregory M. Cooper, former head of the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, founded the Cold Case Foundation in 2013, he had high expectations, but couldn't anticipate the level of response. What started with just a half-dozen or so retired FBI agents and homicide detectives has ballooned to more than 150 women and men who volunteer their time to help families of deceased or missing loved ones bring closure to cases that have gone "cold."

The Cold Case Foundation shares riveting and rewarding cases the Foundation has helped solve, from high-profile missing persons cases to decades-old murders. The Cold Case Foundation has contributed to the solving of dozens of cases and is helping hundreds more homicide and missing persons investigations move forward. Police departments and victims' families from throughout the country have been supported by the Foundation's services, which are more than welcome for investigators that are increasingly finding themselves with fewer resources to dedicate to the most difficult cases.

The Cold Case Foundation covers not only the investigative approaches the Foundation's investigators employ and recommend, but also the principles and activities that help communities and law enforcement agencies come together to help solve cases that, for whatever reason, have gone unsolved—until now.

"How is it possible to recover and love the world again when you have lived through the worst? "On the night of September 5, 1990, my two children, Lucie and Sylvain, were murdered by their own father. Faced with such a tragedy, I could have killed myself, but I chose life. Like many mothers, I believed that I could never live without my children. And yet... today, I am no longer ashamed to be alive. Surviving hell is possible.
"There is not a word in the dictionary that is good enough to define the nothingness in which I and my family found ourselves."
"To fill this gap, I decided to write my story. How can you survive the death of your children? I hope that my testimony will help you, dear reader, to understand the pain of the victims and perhaps one day to overcome it."
In this extraordinary story, of rare humanity, Patricia Oddo finds the strength to live for her children, to fall in love, to be a mother again, to speak without taboo about this tragedy that struck her children, and to mourn this tragedy thirty years later.
