Sinossi

This book is a record of a pleasure trip. If it were a record of a solemn scientific expedition, it would have about it that gravity, that profundity, and that impressive incomprehensibility which are so proper to works of that kind, and withal so attractive. Yet notwithstanding it is only a record of a pic-nic, it has a purpose, which is to suggest to the reader how he would be likely to see Europe and the East if he looked at them with his own eyes instead of the eyes of those who traveled in those countries before him. I make small pretense of showing anyone how he ought to look at objects of interest beyond the sea—other books do that, and therefore, even if I were competent to do it, there is no need.
I offer no apologies for any departures from the usual style of travel-writing that may be charged against me—for I think I have seen with impartial eyes, and I am sure I have written at least honestly, whether wisely or not.

🚨 ATTENTION PERFECTIONISTS: If you’ve ever rewritten an email 14 times, physically cringed at a typo, or spent an hour debating whether to sign off with "Best" or "Sincerely"—this book is your personal attack.
Do you spend an obscene amount of time making sure every minor detail of your life is flawless, only to burn out like an overheated laptop from 2006? Do you find yourself rewriting text messages to ensure they sound casual, yet professional, yet witty, yet effortless, yet not like you're trying too hard, but also not like you don’t care?
CONGRATULATIONS! 🎉 You’re a perfectionist. And it’s ruining your life.
In this hilariously unhinged survival guide, we’ll explore:
✅ The Art of Overthinking Everything – Why make a simple decision when you could spiral into existential dread?
✅ Procrastination: The Perfectionist’s Favorite Coping Mechanism – If you never start, you never fail! Genius!
✅ How to Do Everything at 110% Until You Emotionally Collapse – Sleep is for the weak.
✅ Lowering Your Standards: An Incredibly Painful but Necessary Life Skill – Your 80% effort is still better than Todd’s 20%, and he got promoted.
By the end of this book, you won’t be cured of perfectionism (LOL, good luck with that), but you will at least understand why your brain is a flaming disaster.
📢 WARNING: This book contains aggressive sarcasm, brutal self-awareness, and zero practical advice on how to actually fix yourself. (Because let’s be honest, you’d just overthink it anyway.)

What does it mean to feel awe in an age when every corner of the planet can be seen from a screen?
In A Geography of Wonder, celebrated travel writer Reece Davis sets out on a deeply personal quest — to rediscover the feeling that first drew him to the road: wonder. From Iceland’s volcanic deserts to the emerald jungles of Borneo, from silent Arctic nights to crowded city streets, Davis seeks out places and moments that still have the power to humble and astonish.
Along the way, he reflects on how wonder shapes our understanding of the world — and why, in a time of speed and certainty, slowing down to feel awe might be the greatest act of exploration left.
Blending rich travel narrative with philosophy and poetic insight, A Geography of Wonder is a celebration of curiosity, reverence, and the untamed beauty that still beats within the human spirit.

“By far the most thorough and well-written investigative book on RMS Titanic’s short life and tragic sinking that this reviewer has read . . . fascinating.” —Choice Reviews   The sinking of the Titanic on her maiden voyage in April 1912 was one of the defining moments of the twentieth century. Books and films about the disaster that befell the iconic liner are commonplace, and it seems almost inconceivable that anything fresh can emerge. But there is one angle that has not been covered, and Titanic examines the events of April 1912 from that completely new perspective. John Lang brings the standards of a twenty-first-century accident investigation to bear on the events of April 1912, using his expertise and his investigator’s instinct to determine exactly what happened a century ago, and what important lessons still need to be learned.  “A fascinating account . . . this book looks at the facts from a new perspective and uncovers some unexpected findings. A worthwhile read.” —Royal Naval Sailing Association  “Provides genuine insight into what almost certainly happened before, during and after the ice sliced through the five compartments on the liner’s starboard bow.” —Viewpoint  “Lang, with his experience of marine accident investigation has found an angle in examining events of April 1912 from the perspective of an MAIB officer. His analysis is supported by detailed background material enabling the reader to understand the events of the collision and sinking more fully as he brings the standards of a 21st century investigation to bear on the events in determining exactly what happened and why.” —Flash

You don’t need to walk across Italy to find meaning. But it sure doesn’t hurt.
Walking Through Tuscany is a memoir about swapping comfort for carafes of wine, trail dust, and a slower kind of travel. What started as a long-distance walk along the Via Francigena turned into something more human—mountains crossed, vineyards wandered, and strangers turned friends.
This isn’t a guidebook. It’s the story of what happens when you stop rushing: broken sandals, golden hour moments, and a version of Tuscany you won’t find on a postcard.
We thought we were just walking. Turns out, we were writing the story of our lives.

The history of Ukraine is a fascinating story of how cultures, political systems, religions, and power have met, intersected, morphed, and expanded. The region was relatively sparsely populated for much of ancient history, a wilderness of rivers, forests, and steppes, but that does not detract from the rich historical development of the region. A huge area, Ukraine is wedged between the continents of Asia and Europe, and its position as a crossroads ensured there was fierce competition for influence there. Historians have called the formation of Ukraine the “establishment of a unity among three zones…the ports of Crimea and the coast, the rich steppe heartland, and the forests,” based around the themes of “geography, ecology and culture.”
Today’s Ukraine is a huge country, incorporating an area over 600,000 square kilometers and home to 42 million people. It stretches from the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea in the south to Belarus in the north, Russia to the east, and Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary to the west. The Dnieper River is the region’s key waterway, running into the Black Sea, while the Danube Delta also forms its border with modern-day Romania to the southwest. A steppe exists in the middle of the country while the Carpathian Mountains feature in the west. This geographical formation has influenced some of the country’s key historical developments, as well as the location of its major settlements. Kiev (known today as Kyiv) is, of course, the longstanding capital of the country, located on the Dnieper River in the central northern part of modern Ukraine. Lviv is another large city, located in the northwest near the border with Poland. Odessa is a seaside city on the Black Sea in Ukraine’s southwest, while Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk are major cities in the country’s east, close to the Russian border.
