Sinopsis

Explorer Richard Burton is up against a supernatural enemy in the Philip K. Dick Award–winning steampunk series set in an alternate nineteenth century England.

Since the assassination of Queen Victoria in 1840, a cabal of prominent men—including King George V, Prince Albert, MP Benjamin Disraeli, and engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel—has steered the empire into a period of unprecedented peace and creativity with help from the spirit of a dead mystic, Abdu El Yezdi.

But on the eve of a groundbreaking alliance with the newly formed Greater German Confederation, scientists, surgeons, and engineers are being abducted—including Brunel! And when the government needs him most, Abdu El Yezdi is refusing to speak with the living.

Enter the newly-knighted explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton. Appointed the king’s agent, he must track down the missing luminaries and solve the mystery of Abdu El Yezdi’s silence. But how can the famous explorer fulfill his mission when his friends and loved ones are being picked off, one by one, by what appears to be a supernatural entity—perhaps, Abdu El Yezdi himself?

Cath Barton's melancholic novella Between The Virgin and the Sea is set in an unnamed city which has fallen off the map of the world, and is accessible now only by sea.
Violence has broken out in the city and the people, fearing that the church is involved, pray instead at roadside shrines.
The story tells the events of a day at the end of which the white statue of the Virgin which stands on a hill overlooking the city may ― or may not ― come to life to restore peace to its people. Central to the story and living in the barrios is a boy called Tag, the things of which he dreams and the maps he draws.
Set in a surreal and changing city, in which pizza delivery is carried out by donkey, and nothing may be what it seems, Between the Virgin and the Sea explores themes of childhood and coming of age.
A captivating blend of magical realism, tender comedy, and literary experimentation, Between the Virgin and the Sea is a captivating portrait of urban life quite unlike any other.

"We are not fake anythings!" said Lance.
"I could debate that with you," said Blake.
"Where is the ghost?" Blake said changing the subject.
"Now I have a ghost and a grim reaper in my lounge room!" said Lance infuriated.
"Grand Reaper? What's that?" the ghost asked.
"Another name for a couch potato!" Lance hissed,
"Dork why you shouting," said Junior walking in the room.
"Oh, he's no bother, he has good taste! Anyone who likes Neighbours is alright with me" Blake said.
"You sure this isn't The Munsters!" Blake asked.
"I want to watch this!" said the ghost standing up.
"Quit it stop using the voice let him watch this!" Blake said.
"He is a ghost he shouldn't be watching soapies!" said Lance.

A gothic thriller of good versus evil played out in the heart of a mysterious castle—the sequel to Sir Gibbie by the 19th-century Scottish author.   As well as being MacDonald’s longest book, the magnificent Donal Grant is a novel with everything—a Gothic castle with hidden rooms and passageways, good guys and bad guys, mysteries and inheritances, and poignant yet bittersweet love. Little does Gibbie’s friend Donal realize what he is in for when he takes a tutoring job at mysterious Castle Graham.   Woven throughout, of course, are many signature tunes of MacDonald’s wisdom and spiritual insight, including one of C.S. Lewis’s favorite MacDonald lines, that God is “easy to please but hard to satisfy.” Along with Malcolm, Donal Grant presents one of MacDonald’s most intricate and riveting plots, led by another of his stellar characters of virtue and truth. Its massive length, however (786 pages in the original), difficult Scots dialect, and numerous digressive tangents, illustrate better than any MacDonald title the need for condensed contemporary editions. Donal Grant is unique in the MacDonald corpus as being originally released in two different editions in Great Britain and America. This updated edition by Michael Phillips, which Phillips ranks as one of his favorite MacDonald titles, epitomizes the value and significance of The Cullen Collection in bringing the fiction of George MacDonald alive for new generations.
