Sinossi

NATO Defense Wins examines NATO's peacekeeping operations, moving beyond military intervention narratives to explore the political, social, and economic factors crucial for lasting stability. The book evaluates mission effectiveness using concrete metrics, providing lessons for future interventions and informing key policy decisions. It traces NATO’s evolution from Cold War defense to post-Cold War crisis management, defining key concepts such as peacebuilding and stability operations. The book argues that sustainable peace requires addressing the root causes of conflict, promoting good governance, and fostering economic development. Through detailed case studies, it analyzes the planning, execution, and long-term outcomes of specific NATO missions, highlighting factors like local ownership and coordination with international organizations. The analysis rests on official NATO records, academic research, and independent evaluations, offering practical recommendations for improving future peacekeeping operations and refining NATO’s strategic approach to international security and conflict resolution.

    Start of the American Revolution...

The American Revolution is replete with seminal moments that every American learns in school, from the “shot heard ‘round the world” to the Declaration of Independence, but the events that led up to the fighting at Lexington & Concord were the products of 10 years of division between the British and their American colonies over everything from colonial representation in governments to taxation, the nature of searches, and the quartering of British regulars in private houses. From 1764-1775, a chain of events that included lightning rods like the Townshend Acts led to bloodshed in the form of the Boston Massacre, while the Boston Tea Party became a symbol of nonviolent protest.
The political and military nature of the Revolutionary War was just as full of intrigue. Disorganized militias fought the Battles of Lexington & Concord, George Washington would lead the Continental Army in the field, men like Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, and Benjamin Franklin negotiated overseas in France. Benedict Arnold would become one of his nation’s most vital war heroes and its most notorious traitor, French forces would play a crucial role at the end of the war, and the Treaty of Paris would conclude the Revolution with one last great surprise.
Although cooler heads eventually prevailed and war was averted in the wake of the Powder Alarm, that long forgotten event has been called a “dress rehearsal” of sorts for what would transpire on April 19, 1775, arguably the most momentous day in American history. April 19 began with midnight riders spreading an alarm about a British raid headed for Concord, and by the end of the day, the British column was fleeing for their lives back to the vicinity of Boston as thousands of militiamen headed to cut them off and surround them. By the time the sun went down, 10 years of strife between the 13 colonies and Great Britain finally boiled over into pitched battle and the start of the American Revolution.

People with ADHD die thirteen years younger than their neurotypical peers.
Thirteen years of life—lost to a crisis hiding in plain sight.
This isn't about distraction or disorganization. It's about the accumulated weight of rejection, misunderstanding, and a world that demands we be someone we're not. It's about suicide rates three times higher than the general population. Chronic stress from constant masking. Substance abuse as self-medication. Accidents from impulsivity that go unaddressed. It's about biological realities the medical system overlooks—inflammation, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic conditions that ravage ADHD bodies differently.
The ADHD Crisis: The Shortened Lifespan We're Overlooking exposes why our life expectancy is shorter—and charts a path forward.
Amanda M. Houghton reveals the emotional, psychological, and biological factors stealing years from ADHD lives. This book calls ADHDers to radical self-acceptance and unconditional self-love. It celebrates the extraordinary beauty of ADHD minds. It equips loved ones to truly understand us. And it provides HR departments and educational institutions with concrete strategies for life-saving systemic change.
The crisis is real. The call to action is urgent.
It's time to stop overlooking—and start saving—ADHD lives.

From the Silk Roads to the Berlin Wall, discover the globe-turning history of human migration

We are a species in motion—from the first steps of Homo sapiens across Africa to America's "melting pot." And when we move—in search of better things, or against our will—our beliefs and skills clash and combine, reshaping society time and again.

In this visionary Shortest History of Migration, Ian Goldin uncovers key moments of cultural exchange while carefully examining empire, slavery, and war. Throughout, we meet famous explorers (Zheng He), exiles (Pablo Neruda), and everyday people in extraordinary circumstances: a Jewish man saved by the Kindertransport, a Japanese gardener who blossomed in Mexico City.

Today, freedom of movement is being curtailed, even as climate change and conflict mobilize people everywhere around the world. Goldin reminds us that passports at every border are a modern invention (he traces the "birth of big brother" to World War I), revealing the folly of trying to halt migration—and proposing commonsense policy instead.

A gripping chronicle of want and wanderlust, this is a moving portrait of humanity—in every sense of the word.

    Most Famous Walls of Antiquity...

Throughout history, walls have been constructed as part of nations’ and kingdoms’ defensive structures to keep barbarian hordes, marauding rebels, and recalcitrant tribes out of defined geographic areas. Defensive walls were usually constructed by fairly advanced and sophisticated peoples, such as the Romans and Chinese, with varying degrees of success. Of course, the most famous of all defensive walls in the world is the Great Wall of China, which is actually a series of walls and forts built over the span of several centuries. The Chinese built the Great Wall of China, and several others, primarily to keep invaders from the north, such as the Mongols, out of their land, or at least to slow them down as they fled north after raids. The Romans also built spectacular walls, most notably the Antonine Wall and Hadrian’s Wall. The purpose of those walls was to set the northern limit of the Roman Empire at approximately the modern border of England and Scotland, and, like the Great Wall of China, it was intended to keep out or slow down marauding barbarian tribes from the north.
The Great Wall of China is perhaps the wonder of the world that has most captured the human imagination, and as the quotes about it indicate, the wall has acquired special significance even outside of China. The places and ways in which it has taken hold vary greatly, but one thing is certain: the Great Wall of China is as amazing as it is mysterious, and it’s as mundane as it is magical.
The Romans were master builders, and much of what they built has stood the test of time. Throughout their vast empire they have left grand structures, from the Forum and Pantheon in Rome to the theatres and hippodromes of North Africa and the triumphal gates in Anatolia and France. Wherever they went, the Romans built imposing structures to show their power and ability, and one of their most impressive constructions was built on the northernmost fringe of the empire.
