Lakes might be the most misunderstood bodies of water on earth. And while they may seem commonplace, without lakes our world would never be the same. In this revealing look at these lifegiving treasures, John Richard Saylor shows us just how deep our connection to still waters run. Lakes is an illuminating tour through the most fascinating lakes around the world. Whether it's Lake Vostok, located more than two miles beneath the surface of Antarctica, whose water was last exposed to the atmosphere perhaps a million years ago; Lake Baikal in southern Siberia, the world's deepest and oldest lake formed by a rift in the earth's crust; or Lake Nyos, the so-called Killer Lake that exploded in 1986, resulting in hundreds of deaths, Saylor reveals to us the wonder that exists in lakes found throughout the world. Along the way we learn all the many forms that lakes take—how they come to be and how they feed and support ecosystems—and what happens when lakes vanish.

As Earth entered the Cambrian Period, there was a relatively sudden increase in life form diversity throughout the oceans. Completely new forms of life, more complex and more diverse than anything that had been seen before, began to spread. This acceleration in the evolution of new forms of life was so dramatic that this has come to be known as the “Cambrian explosion.”
Although new species in the Cambrian explosion developed almost entirely in the oceans, the land was not entirely devoid of life. Though there were no plants or animals, mats of cyanobacteria and other types of microbes covered large terrestrial areas. Scientists have discovered the tracks of a creature that were left in mud that existed 551 Mya, and those tracks were left by leg-like appendages. Was this a fish-like creature that temporarily invaded the land, or was it something completely different than anything that exists today? There is no general consensus, but the Cambrian Period left a rich fossil record that provides a clear idea of the development of life during this time. At the same time, new discoveries are continually being made, and the more scientists discover about this mysterious period, the more their understanding of ancient Earth changes.
The Cambrian Period: The History and Legacy of the Start of Complex Life on Earth looks at the development of the era, the extinction event that preceded it, and how life began to evolve during it.

Dalai Lama (2000) believes that seeking happiness "lies in our nature": The desire or need to be happy knows no bounds. It is something that lies in our nature. As such, it needs no grounds and it is justified by the simple fact that it is something we rightly want out of our nature. One has also asked if happiness is as important in all cultures. The answer is that happiness is at the top of the wish-list in every country; It is more important than wealth and to come to heaven, and as important as love (Diener and Biswas-Diener, 2008)...what makes us richer has been costly. The wealth, or what has been the prerequisite for wealth, has reduced a quieter life, close and stable relationships, we are moving apart. A materialistic lifestyle has a negative connection with happiness (Hellevik, 2003). NEF (2016) has calculated values on Happy Planet Index for 140 countries. Highest ranks Costa Rica and a number of other countries in Latin America. The population of Costa Rica has high values for happiness and longevity, and they have low values of ecological footprints. Norway has very high values of happiness and longevity, but also of footprints. In total, Norway is ranked twelfth and therefore highest among European countries, but closely followed by Albania. The United Kingdom is at thirty-fourth place, Canada number eighty-five and the United States number 108.

    CREATE A FURRY LOVE-CONNECTION!
Cats are considered a part of the family, but what do you do when your kitty interferes with love and romance? When your cat hates your date, but you're smitten, what's a caring pet owner to do? Or perhaps you're pregnant, and your longtime "fur-kid" acts jealous, or you worry Grandma's cats aren't used to toddler antics. The stress put on family relationships can make animal behaviors and communication go sideways, and turn a once loving pet bond into a dysfunctional relationship. Cats often lose their homes or lives when the bond breaks, unless you teach cats to accept babies, toddlers, and lovers.
MY CAT HATES MY DATE! packs prescriptive advice into a short how-to guide that offers step-by-step instructions how to improve family relationships between babies, toddlers, kids and adults, and your furry family members. You'll learn:
    •Why Cats Hate New People
•7 Tips to Fix Feline Jealousy
    •7 Ways Cats Show Love
•The Health Benefits of Pets & Why Kids Benefit Most!
    •Cat-to-Baby Introductions
    •Cat-to-Toddler/Kid Introductions
•Why "Acting" Like Cats Makes You a Great Romantic Catch
With a fun conversational tone and easy to use proven techniques, MY CAT HATES MY DATE! helps ensure your loving bond remains strong and intact.
NOTE: If your sweetheart wants you to choose between him/her and your cat, suggest they read this book, before you show 'em the door. Use the book as a "pet test" to teach dates how to win affection from your furry family members!
