  For nearly fifteen years, Fort Stoddert stood as a tangible symbol of America’s push to assert control over a critical frontier region. Situated on the banks of the Mobile River—about thirty miles north of the city of Mobile—near what was then the border between the United States and Spanish West Florida, the fort was established in 1799 and abandoned not long after the Creek War of 1813–14. Though its existence was brief, Fort Stoddert became a focal point for numerous key developments in the early American history of southwest Alabama. It served as the administrative center for a newly acquired territory, a strategic hub for international diplomacy, a vital link in the emerging national transportation and communication network, a launching point for American settlement and expansion, and a cornerstone in the military defense strategy for the Mississippi Territory.   In How to Lose the Hounds Celeste Winston explores marronage—the practice of flight from and placemaking beyond slavery—as a guide to police abolition. She examines historically Black maroon communities in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, that have been subjected to violent excesses of police power from slavery until the present day. Tracing the long and ongoing historical geography of Black freedom struggles in the face of anti-Black police violence in these communities, Winston shows how marronage provides critical lessons for reimagining public safety and community well-being. These freedom struggles take place in what Winston calls maroon geographies—sites of flight from slavery and the spaces of freedom produced in multigenerational Black communities. Maroon geographies constitute part of a Black placemaking tradition that asserts life-affirming forms of community. Winston contends that maroon geographies operate as a central method of Black flight, holding ground, and constructing places of freedom in ways that imagine and plan a world beyond policing.

Metaphysics explores the nature of reality, asking questions about existence, time, and the universe. Epistemology deals with the nature and limits of knowledge—how we acquire it and whether absolute truth exists. Ethics examines the principles of right and wrong, guiding moral behavior. Logic studies the structure of reasoning, ensuring that arguments are sound and rational. Political philosophy and aesthetics, while sometimes considered separate disciplines, also fall under the broader philosophical umbrella, dealing with justice, governance, and beauty.

Baba Ram Das / Author 'BE HERE NOW' Ram Krishna Das Vaishnaba, or Dude Dehari Baba, or Milk Baba was so named because he lived forty-five years entirely on one small cup of milk per day. No other food ever passed his lips. Baba lived in a small room by the Bagmati river at Pashiputinath temple, five kilometers outside of Katmandu. His beautiful matted hair, or jata, was over twenty-six feet long. Baba was a lifelong devotee of Lord Rama and God Brother and confidant of Neem Karoli Baba, the iconic guru of Baba Ram Das. Lord Rama, also known as Ramachandra, is the seventh avatar of Krishna, one of his most popular incarnations along with Parshurama, and Gautama Buddha. Rama was born to Kaushalya and Dasharatha in Ayodhya, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kosala. Dude Baba was always chanting the name of Rama and was a master musician and great singer of bhajans. In 1993 he met American devotee author Jagannatha Dasa and subsequently travelled to his farm community in Lockport, New York for a six-month residency at the SRI ashram there. While there Dasa arranged for Baba to begin a mammoth two week recording session with a host of popular Indian musicians in order to get his collected bhajans down on tape for posterity. Recorded too were several inspirational lectures. Here then is the fruit of a lifetime spent as an ardent servant of Lord Rama and liberating transcendental vibrations of a pure devotee.
