Sinopsis

In I Am Still Alive: Dispatches from Gaza, Palestinian poet and cultural worker Mahmoud M Al-Shaer documents life during the ongoing war in Gaza with breathtaking clarity and devastating intimacy. Composed as a series of dispatches written since January 11, 2024, the author uses his voice to record his struggle to hold onto words in resistance to erasure and whilst bearing witness to unbearable violence. These texts offer not just a relentless chronicle of destruction, but a vital affirmation of presence, relation, and survival amidst the unspeakable catastrophes unfolding in Gaza. From the wreckage of homes and futures, Al-Shaer builds language as shelter—raw, lyrical, defiant. His writing refuses the daily cruelty imposed by war and human rights violations, and demands the world pay attention. Each page pulses with an utterance that insists: I am still alive.Mahmoud M Al-Shaer has dedicated this book to his three-year-old twins—Nai and Majd—now separated by nearly 1,000 kilometers and exposed to different traumas. All proceeds from the sale of I Am Still Alive (available in print and ebook formats) will go to the author to support his family and other Palestinians.Mahmoud M Al-Shaer is a writer, poet, and editor-in-chief of 28 Magazine as well as founder and head curator of 28 Gallery in Rafah, Palestine. Al-Shaer coordinated cultural projects in collaboration with visual artists and writers for the publishing house Khuta, for Al-Ghussein House in Gaza City (where he was cultural program coordinator), for Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation Palestine, and for Goethe-Institut Ramallah. He was co-curator of the New Alphabet School at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2019–22) where he also co-edited (with Olga Schubert, Gigi Argyropoulou, an Rahul Gudipudi) edition #22 of DNA, the HKW’s publication series released adjacent to the program. He contributed to the 12th Berlin Biennial (2023) and was also part of two exhibitions by the Quattan Foundation in Ramallah (Instant Modernism, 2023 and The Valley Trail, 2021). Since the beginning of the ongoing war in Gaza, he has been working at the field hospital of the International Medical Corps (IMC) in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Published by K. Bill Maher first came to national attention as the host of the hit program Politically Incorrect, in which he offered a combustible mixture of irreverence and acerbic humor that garnered him a loyal following. In his popular and long-running HBO television show, Real Time with Bill Maher, his reputation for being a hilarious provocateur continues. One particular segment of the show— "New Rules"— strikes a chord with viewers every week. Within these rules, Maher takes comic and serious aim, bringing all his incisiveness, wit, and signature exasperation to bear on topics ranging from cell phones ("I don't need my cell phone to take pictures or access the Internet. I just need to make a phone call!") to the conservative agenda ("Stop claiming it's an agenda. It's not an agenda! It's a random collection of laws that your corporate donors paid you to pass!"). In this collection, Maher brings these brilliantly conceived riffs to audio, along with some singularly Maher-ian "editorials"— editorials nothing like the standard fare found on the pages of the local newspaper!

Pullman examines themes of labor and love, using as its backdrop the history of the treatment of the Pullman car porters of the late 19th century. The poems and art pieces in this collection both reflect on and interact with cultural and historical sources, from the slave narratives of Harriet Jacobs to the creative output of the poet and artist' s late father, a musician and songwriter for Aretha Franklin. With urgency, and without apology, Pullman underscores the relationships between the events of our American past and of our present.

When the British Government turn down a revolutionary weapons system in favour of the new Euro fighter they don't realise the wrath their decision will cause. The only radar system capable of detecting the new Thor's Hammer is the experimental Spyglass system being transported on a cruise liner commanded by ex-Navy Captain Eric Swanson. Martin Westfarland, designer of Thor's Hammer, decides to teach the British Government a lesson by sinking the liner and destroying Spyglass before passing Thor's Hammer onto the Iraqis who plan to use it to deliver a deadly bio-weapon to the west. Through a series of action-filled events, Swanson and Squadron Leader Gerry Denton are brought together to thwart the terrorist attack, while the SAS are assigned to locate and destroy the chemical lab in the Syrian Desert, which created the virus. Unfortunately the virus has already been loaded onto Thor's Hammer. Thus it falls to Denton to fly the Typhoon Euro fighter against the faster and stealthier Thor's Hammer before it can deliver its deadly payload.
