Beschreibung

Halloween is the most wonderful part of the year for many of us. For dedicated fans, the season begins when the leaves start turning autumn colors and doesn't finish until Hallowtide ends in November. With it comes a whole lot of fun: scary movies and stories, haunted houses, seasonal sweets, spooky decorations, costume parties, and of course trick or treat. But Halloween is also a deeply spiritual time for some; it's an opportunity to remember and honor loved ones who have passed on.

Master storyteller Lucy A. Snyder has filled her cauldron with everything that Halloween means to her and distilled it into a spell-binding volume of stories. Within these pages you'll find thrills and chills, hilarity and horrors, the sweet and the naughty.

One of the best things about Halloween is you don't have to be yourself. So go ahead and try on a new mask or two ... you may discover hidden talents as a witch, a pirate, a space voyager, a zombie fighter, or even an elf. This is the perfect collection to celebrate the season of the dead or to summon those heady autumn vibes whenever you like. You may even find a couple of tales that evoke a certain winter holiday that keeps trying to crowd in on the fun.

In the worlds within this book, every day is Halloween!

Ace Ventura meets the Addams Family! A shambling horde of new cases hits Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. in the Unnatural Quarter. Dan and his gang—including his ghost girlfriend, feisty lawyer partner, cop best friend, and little vampire half-daughter Alvina—are out to seek justice, solve mysteries, and keep their heads on straight … or at least attached. Alvina’s singing lessons for the Banshee Tabernacle Choir end on a sour note when the troll choir director plunges to her death from a high belfry, and the only witness is a deaf-as-a-post gargoyle who sits too close to the loud bells. A frustrated imp, woefully unsuccessful in betting on the nightmare races, is dead certain that his bookie BatGN (GN for “gender neutral” to avoid copyright issues) is cheating him. Francine, the salty bartender at the Goblin Tavern, is worried when One Fang the vampire—her on-again, off-again suitor—disappears without a trace. A shady vendor discovers a market for living shrunken heads that are conversational as well as decorative, but the demand by far exceeds the supply. A heartless therapist has ulterior motives when she counsels zombies, distracting them from their woes to concentrate not just on brains, but on self-improvement as well. There is much at stake in the Unnatural Quarter, and it’s up to Dan Shamble to keep the streets dark and safe for monsters and humans alike. After all, the cases don’t solve themselves! This zombie detective puts the P.I. back in R.I.P.

"And have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the sense?"

First published in 1843, The Tell-Tale Heart is a story of murder and madness in which the author poineers the trope of the unreliable narrator.

Driven to madness by the chilling, "vulture-like" eye of an old man, the unnamed narrator of the story tells how they meticulously planned and executed the perfect crime—and now sets out to prove their sanity to the audience by calmly recounting the details of the murder. But even after dismembering the body and concealing it under the floorboards, an undeniable sound echoes through the house. The pounding of a tell-tale heart.

In this gripping tale of psychological terror, Poe explores the fine line between sanity and madness and proves that a guilty conscience can be the most haunting torment of all.
Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) was an American writer, poet, editor and literary critic known for his dark, atmospheric tales and haunting poetry. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in American literature, Poe helped shape the horror and science-fiction genres and is widely credited with inventing detective fiction in his 1841 short story, Murders in the Rue Morgue. Despite a life marked by personal tragedy and financial hardship, Poe produced a number of enduring classics such as The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Fall of the House of Usher, and since his somewhat mysterious death, he and his writings have had a wide-ranging influence in popular culture. In 1946, the Mystery Writers of America established the annual Edgar award, which honour the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, and film

Megan is a thirteen-year-old teenage girl, who realises that she has psychic powers that others do not have. At first, she tried to talk to her mother about them, but with disastrous consequences, so she learned to keep quiet about them.
However, some people do offer to help and an animal showed a special friendship, but they were not `alive` in the normal sense of the word. They had passed on.
Megan has three such friends: Wacinhinsha, her Spirit Guide, who had been Sioux in his last life on Earth; her maternal grandfather, Gramps and a huge Siberian tiger called Grrr.
Wacinhinsha is extremely knowledgeable in all things spiritual, psychic and paranormal; her grandfather is a novice `dead person` and Grrr can only speak Tiger, as one might imagine and most of that, of course is unintelligible to humans.
In `Megan`s Father Falls Ill`, Megan is concerned about her father`s health, because she has never seen him ill before, so she decides to try using her psychic powers to cure him. In the end, she uses a combination of her gifts and the Internet to discover ways to help him recover.
Wacinhinsha gives her a lecture on medicine and its application, especially from the Spiritualist point of view.

Like shadows in the night, Captain Andrew Serrano and his elite team intercept the cargo ship Griffin, secretly owned by a Russian arms dealer. Their objective: capture the bio-engineer Dr. Hank Nore and deliver him to the C.I.A. The operation initially goes well, with the team overpowering the security forces and tracking their target to the lower decks. Backed into a corner, Dr. Nore resorts to desperate measures to avoid capture. When explosives breach the hull, the mercenaries are forced topside before the vessel sinks to the bottom of the Indian Ocean. Minutes later, they find themselves stranded on floating wreckage. Little do they know, their nightmare has only just begun.

A large dorsal fin rises from the water. One of their numbers is quickly pulled under and torn to pieces. Serrano realizes he and his team are being stalked by a ravenous shark. Before long, it becomes evident this is not a normal shark, but a product of genetic tampering. Mutated from the October Trial of the Titan Serum experimentations, the creature seeks to kill without discrimination. With bulletproof skin and armed with teeth sharp enough to pierce steel, it is the prototype for new age of biological warfare.

With his team being massacred before his very eyes, Serrano's only chance for survival is to rid the world of The Titan Prototype.
