Sinopse

"Greek Epic Catalogues" offers a fresh perspective on ancient Greek epics by examining their often-overlooked catalogues. Rather than viewing these lists as mere addenda, the book argues that they are vital components that shape our understanding of identity, memory, and power. These catalogues, found within the Iliad and the Odyssey, served as mnemonic devices for oral tradition, allowing bards to recall and recite vast amounts of information. One intriguing aspect is how network analysis reveals the relationships between characters and places mentioned, uncovering patterns of social and geographical organization within ancient Greece. The book explores the literary function of catalogues, their mnemonic significance, and their symbolic representation of social structures. It challenges the perception of catalogues as static elements, instead positioning them as integral to epic storytelling. By integrating literary analysis with cognitive and social approaches, "Greek Epic Catalogues" demonstrates how these lists encode information about social structures and military strength, reflecting the worldview of the culture. The book unfolds by establishing a theoretical framework, then focusing on literary devices, mnemonic function, and symbolic meaning in subsequent chapters, providing a comprehensive analysis of their enduring significance.

In this bold and exhilarating mix of memoir and master class, Melissa Febos tackles the emotional, psychological, and physical work of writing intimately while offering an utterly fresh examination of the storyteller's life and the questions which run through it.

How might we go about capturing on the page the relationships that have formed us? How do we write about our bodies, their desires and traumas? What does it mean for an author's way of writing, or living, to be dismissed as "navel-gazing"—or else hailed as "so brave, so raw"? And to whom, in the end, do our most intimate stories belong?

Drawing on her own path from aspiring writer to acclaimed author and writing professor—via addiction and recovery, sex work and academia—Melissa Febos has created a captivating guide to the writing life, and a brilliantly unusual exploration of subjectivity, privacy, and the power of divulgence. Candid and inspiring, Body Work will empower readers and writers alike, offering ideas—and occasional notes of caution—to anyone who has ever hoped to see themselves in a story.

In the earliest periods of Ancient Egypt, military organization was relatively simplistic, reflecting the needs of a society transitioning from small, independent communities to a unified state. During the Predynastic and Early Dynastic periods, military efforts were often led by local chieftains or emerging kings, whose power was consolidated through the control of small, regional armies. These early forces primarily consisted of able-bodied men called upon when conflicts arose, rather than a standing army.
The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under King Narmer marked a significant turning point in the military structure. With this unification came the need for more organized military strategies to maintain control over the expansive territories. The pharaoh, regarded as both a political and military leader, played a central role in directing military campaigns and defending borders. Early depictions on palettes and reliefs show the pharaoh as a warrior, symbolizing strength and divine authority in battle. This image was crucial in asserting dominance and maintaining internal order.
Weapons used during this time were relatively basic, often crafted from stone, wood, and copper. Warriors wielded maces, spears, and simple bows, which were effective in close combat and hunting but limited in more advanced warfare. Shields made from animal hides provided some defense, but armor was scarce, as mobility remained more valued than heavy protection. Chariots, which would later become integral to Egyptian military prowess, had not yet been introduced, and combat primarily involved foot soldiers engaging in skirmishes.

It’s a hard name to pronounce, but hey, it’s been the legend of Native American peoples for centuries.
Was it a man? Was it a god? Was it a white person? Or was it some animal or strange thing?
Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec divine being whose name originates from the Nahuatl language and meaning "valuable snake" or "Quetzal-feathered Snake."
"Quetzalcoatl, in its actual sense, means'snake of valuable plumes,' but in the allegorical sense, 'best of men,'" said Ixtlilxóchitl, a descendant of Aztec royalty and history expert of the Nahua people, in the 17th century.
Quetzalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, the world Venus, the early morning, merchants, and arts, crafts, and knowledge amongst the Aztecs, whose beliefs are the best recorded in historic sources.
He was also the Aztec priesthood's client god, and also the god of research study and knowledge.
In addition to the gods Tlaloc, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl was just one of the most considerable gods in the Aztec temple. Quetzalcoatl's ally Tlaloc (the divine being of rain) and Quetzalcoatl's twin and psychopomp, Xolotl, the dog-headed soul-guide for the dead, are 2 other gods represented by the world Venus.
Apart from that, many people in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are convinced that Quetzalcoatl was the name for Jesus, who, according to their record, the Book of Mormon, came to the American continent.
In this brief book, we will discuss all those convictions, myths, and background stories, so you can be informed and make up your own mind.

In the years following the Civil War, a veritable army of homeless men swept across America's "wageworkers' frontier" and forged a beguiling and bedeviling counterculture known as "hobohemia." Celebrating unfettered masculinity and jealously guarding the American road as the preserve of white manhood, hoboes took command of downtown districts and swaggered onto center stage of the new urban culture. Less obviously, perhaps, they also staked their own claims on the American polity, claims that would in fact transform the very entitlements of American citizenship. In this eye-opening work of American history, Todd DePastino tells the epic story of hobohemia's rise and fall, and crafts a stunning new interpretation of the "American century" in the process. Drawing on sources ranging from diaries, letters, and police reports to movies and memoirs, Citizen Hobo breathes life into the largely forgotten world of the road, but it also, crucially, shows how the hobo army so haunted the American body politic that it prompted the creation of an entirely new social order and political economy. DePastino shows how hoboes—with their reputation as dangers to civilization, sexual savages, and professional idlers—became a cultural and political force, influencing the creation of welfare state measures, the promotion of mass consumption, and the suburbanization of America. Citizen Hobo's sweeping retelling of American nationhood in light of enduring struggles over "home" does more than chart the change from "homelessness" to "houselessness." In its breadth and scope, the book offers nothing less than an essential new context for thinking about Americans' struggles against inequality and alienation.

This book contains the following four titles:
Anger Management - Anger is a powerful emotion that can impact our lives in profound ways. It can arise in moments of frustration, disappointment, or perceived injustice, and, if left unchecked, can lead to regrettable actions and damaged relationships. While anger is a natural and normal response, learning to manage it effectively is crucial for maintaining healthy connections, achieving personal growth, and finding inner peace.
Jealousy - Jealousy is a complex and powerful emotion that affects everyone at some point in their lives. Often described as a blend of fear, insecurity, and possessiveness, it can stir intense feelings of inadequacy and resentment. While jealousy is an emotion that can arise in various forms, ranging from mild discomfort to full-blown emotional turmoil, its impact on individuals and relationships is profound.
Porn Addiction - Porn addiction is a complex and multifaceted issue that extends beyond mere exposure to explicit content. It involves a compulsive behavior pattern where the pursuit of pornographic material starts to dominate an individual’s daily life, affecting mental, emotional, and even physical well-being. Understanding this phenomenon requires a holistic look at how modern technology, societal influences, and neurobiological factors converge to create an environment in which such compulsions can take root.
Stress and Anxiety - Stress is an inevitable part of life, and everyone experiences it in different ways. It can be triggered by external factors, such as work pressures, relationship challenges, or financial difficulties, or it can stem from internal thoughts and perceptions. Understanding stress and its triggers is the first step toward managing it effectively.
