Fiat socialism could also be called flexible socialism, as it frees socialism from the rigidities imposed by historical law. This socialism will take different forms in different places, it accepts that socialist organizations are not exempt from making mistakes, it will involve different levels of participation by the private sector, as well as different levels in the gross operating surpluses, and it is open to processes of improvement in order to mobilize real resources in the best possible way to achieve the goals of socialism. Only one rigidity is established: monetary sovereignty.
Modern monetary theory is only valid in monetary systems where the state is the sovereign issuer of its currency and where there is an appropriate coordination between the Central Bank and the Treasury. If Archimedes in ancient Greece said give me a point of support and I will move the world, a socialist Archimedes would say give me monetary sovereignty and I will build you socialism.

Leverage is often the primary factor that moves negotiated outcomes in favor of one party at the expense of the other party. Leverage in negotiations is the power that one party has to influence - or control - the other party to the negotiation. Leverage is, therefore, incredibly important in determining the outcome of the negotiation.
If you think of a negotiation as dividing up a pie, leverage is, in fact, so powerful that someone with very poor negotiating skills, but who holds a lot of leverage, can often obtain the biggest piece of the pie - or even most of the pie - despite having very poor negotiating skills. Should a negotiator have both excellent negotiating skills and substantial leverage, that negotiator will easily dominate the negotiation.
Which party has the stronger influence or control over the other party can shift throughout the negotiation. Leverage is also not consistent with respect to all issues of the negotiation. You could have a lot of leverage in one area of the negotiation, but very little leverage in other areas of the negotiation. You might also have a lot of leverage over some specific individual members of the other team, but hardly any leverage over other specific individual members of the other team. You must, therefore, strategically apply your leverage in the way that maximizes your control of the negotiation.
Throughout this book, we'll discuss many ways you can both increase your leverage and decrease the other party's leverage. There are many different sources of leverage that can be easily gained or lost through your actions or the actions of the other party.
You'll be able to start applying what you've learned immediately after you've finished reading this book by using the example procedures, responses, strategies, behaviors, and action steps. It works; and it will work for you. Read this book, apply the information, and see for yourself.

In this “provocative and persuasive work,” the health advocate reveals the dirty economics of meat—an industry that’s eating into your wallet (Publishers Weekly).   Few Americans are aware of the economic system that supports our country’s supply of animal foods. Yet these forces affect us in a number of ways—none of them good. Though we only pay a few dollars per pound of meat at the grocery store, we pay far more in tax-fueled government subsidies—$38 billion more, to be exact. And subsidies are just one layer of meat’s hidden cost. But in Meatonomics, lawyer and sustainability advocate David Robinson Simon offers a path toward lasting solutions.   Animal food producers maintain market dominance with artificially low prices, misleading PR, and an outsized influence over legislation. But counteracting these manipulations is easy—with the economic sanity of plant-based foods. In Meatonomics, Simon demonstrates:   How government-funded marketing influences what we think of as healthy eatingHow much of our money is spent to prop up the meat industryHow we can change our habits and our country for the better  “Spectacularly important.” —John Robbins, author of The Food Revolution  “[A] well-researched, passionately written book.” —Publishers Weekly
