Sinopsis

In "The Legends of the Jews (Vol. 1-4)," Louis Ginzberg presents a rich tapestry of Jewish folklore and biblical interpretations, drawing from a diverse array of sources, including rabbinical writings, Midrashic texts, and ancient Jewish legends. Ginzberg employs a narrative style that is both engaging and scholarly, meticulously intertwining theological insights with narrative storytelling. The work is situated within a broader literary context of Jewish religious thought, aiming to preserve cultural memory while elucidating the moral and ethical lessons derived from these legends, thus appealing to both religious and secular audiences alike. Louis Ginzberg was a prominent Jewish scholar of the early 20th century, whose deep engagement with Jewish tradition and history informed his writing. Born in 1873 in Lithuania, Ginzberg immigrated to America, where he became a leading figure in Jewish scholarship. His academic background, combined with his passion for preserving Jewish heritage, led him to compile these legends, which not only reflect the ethnic identity but also serve as a bridge between ancient texts and contemporary audiences. This masterfully crafted collection is highly recommended for anyone interested in Jewish culture, biblical studies, or folklore. Ginzberg's "The Legends of the Jews" offers invaluable insight into the narrative tradition that has shaped Jewish thought and identity, inviting readers to explore the depth and richness of these timeless tales.

The book of Micah is a Prophetic Oracle. The prophet Micah wrote it 742-686 B.C. shortly before the Northern Kingdom’s fall in 722 B.C. Key personalities are all the people of Samaria and Jerusalem. The purpose of the book of Micah was to proclaim warning and judgment to both the Northern and the Southern Kingdoms. His message was similar to that of Isaiah and was written at about the same time. Micah described the impending judgment that would eventually exile the nation.

Vern S. Poythress Explains the Laws of Human Reasoning and How to Apply Them in Light of the Gospel
Humans use reasoning to understand and order the world around us. We apply this logic in a variety of contexts, from classifying simple objects to considering complex philosophies. But how should our identity as Christians—made in the image of God (Gen. 1:26–27) with minds renewed by the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:1–2)—inform our reasoning?
Vern S. Poythress explains how all human reasoning reflects God's nature. Providing a foundational understanding of God as the source of rationality, Poythress details the 3 fundamental laws of logic—identity, contradiction, and excluded middle—with a strong focus on analogical reasoning. This robust guide explains types of analogy, ethics applied to logic, the use of analogies in the doctrines of God, and more to give readers a renewed perspective on how to use reason as a follower of God.

    - Thorough Study of Reasoning: Explores the 3 fundamental laws of logic along with various kinds of analogy, including syllogistic reasoning, formal deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and scientific models
    - From the Author of Logic: A God-Centered Approach to the Foundation of Western Thought: This book continues Poythress's look at reasoning, placing it under the lordship of Christ
    - Great for Students, Pastors, and Christian Philosophers: Includes helpful visuals and appendices for learning and applying various systems of logic

The Age of Revolution has traditionally been understood as an era of secularization, giving the transition from monarchy to independent republics through democratic movements a genealogy that assumes hostility to Catholicism. By centering the story on Spanish and Latin American actors, Pamela Voekel argues that at the heart of this nineteenth-century transformation in Spanish America was a transatlantic Catholic civil war. Voekel demonstrates Reform Catholicism's significance to the thought and action of the rebel literati who led decolonization efforts in Mexico and Central America, showing how each side of this religious divide operated from within a self-conscious intercontinental network of like-minded Catholics. For its central protagonists, the era's crisis of sovereignty provided a political stage for a religious struggle. Drawing on ecclesiastical archives, pamphlets, sermons, and tracts, For God and Liberty reveals how the violent struggles of decolonization and the period before and after Independence are more legible in light of the fault lines within the Church.

    Hearing God Through Hebrews -...

Sometime around 70 A.D. the New Testament book of Hebrews was written. It was before the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and its audience were Jews who professed their faith in Jesus as the Messiah.
There is a bit of mystery as to the author of Hebrews. Many scholars attribute it to the Apostle Paul due some phrasing and the mention of Timothy in the last chapter. But Martin Luther believed Apollos was the author because of its strong use of the Old Testament and because Apollos was mentioned as an eloquent speaker in Acts. Regardless of authorship, the inspiration for it came from God and as part of Scripture it has helped to teach and encourage Christians for over 2000 years.
The purpose of the book is to show the preeminence of Jesus in all things. As you listen notice all the times the author shows how Jesus is superior to Judaism. It’s clear the intent is to show that with Jesus the end had to come to Old Testament Judaism.
Reading the Bible is different than reading any other book. It is more than a narrative about God, it is more than a story of broken individuals and the trials they faced. It is more than a set of rules and regulations. It is even more than a love letter. It is the very essence of Jesus. It is about Him, but there is more than that. It is God’s conversation with us. It is alive. It is active. It is a 2-way conversation.
When we need wisdom, insight, guidance, how do we hear what God is saying to us? God has given us the Bible. It’s a powerful and intimate way to listen to Him and it is the primary way God tells us about Himself. In Jesus is Calling You one or more books of the Bible is presented with steps to hearing from God, the plan of salvation and growing in faith. It is my prayer Jesus uses each of these book to help you hear Him.
